I live in Buffalo,NY area and can't find source for black powder. Can anyone advise where to buy black powder in this area and also, are there any black powder substitutes for use in flint lock rifle?

thers a place up in maine that sells it in case form, calle d maine powder house , or you can order it from poder inc. who ship in 5 pound lots, but as far as in the new york area I havent the faintest clue with the area cities weird regulations,as far as using modern subs yesterday on the flint or percussion sites some one has beeen doing a bit of reserch and shooting subs with a substitue that has been real entertaining , interesting. bb75

In order to get black powder you may have to order it from one of the shooting suppliers. Graf and Sons of Mexico, MO will ship black powder in lots as small as 5 lbs. You do have to pay the hazardous material fees.

Grafs and Sons

I have been buying my powder locally from the Graf and Sons store in St. Charles, MO.

I hope you can find black powder closer, but there are some other alternatives.

try here also....northeast PA....25 lbs picked up for $224.00....not sure of there shipping fees....i only live bout 40 minutes away...........bob

I should have added what it resently costed me for powder inc. charged for everything plus shipping it was 88.95 for 5 pounds of goex, I don't think that was too bad, they have other powders as well check out the web site, 10 pounds of powder was resonable as well ,I just did not need that much at the present. bb75

Graf&Sons is my supplier. The more you order the cheaper
it gets IMO. Try www.grafs.com. Nice people to deal with.
1# to 50# but the Hazmat fee is still $20.
Check them out

I am expecting 25 lbs of KIK to be delivered today. I got it at Powder Inc.. You can get 5, 10, 25 or 50 lbs lots. The total including shipping and hazmat fee came to $254. GOEX would have been only a few dollars more.

The only problem with ordering it is that you have to be there to sign for it. From the price it is well worth the inconvenience.

Right...I've ordered 3 cases of Goex so far...the most recent was delivered a couple months ago for $257.

Never had to sign for any of them though...they've just been sitting on my front porch when I got home

The instructions say you have to sign for it and I was going by that. When UPS delivered it yesterday, the driver said I didn't have to sign. He would have just left it on the porch. Could have saved myself some hassle if I had known that.

And I agree it's surprising that they can just leave stuff like that on a porch without someone signing for it...I think it's great and the way it should be, but still, it's surprising to me.

In the same vein...we have all this worry and talk about "how to properly store and handle black powder", do we need "powder magazines", etc, etc...yet 25 cans of it get shipped all over the country every day in a simple cardboard box...go figure...so that's what I store it in...back of a storage closet in the same carton it arrived in
