Where to find Tow?

old bale strings. The sisal fibers will unravel to make a very effective substitute for TOW either for cleaning or fire starting. .

Yup, the stuff does work, but some/most is treated with a flame retardent. I took a 50yrd spool of 1/4"/6mm and wrapped it along a top strand fencewire and forgot about it for 2yrs, went back and got it on a dry sunny day and it works great.

I'm not sure how, but it's also used or can be used to make explosives,(gun cotton?) and because of that it's been regulated since 2002, it's hard to find the really nice fluffy stuff anymore.

Tow is $20 per pound, that is a mess of tow.

Some of the ALRA boys use tow made from Hemp fibers. They don't seem to act "strange" when they make fires from it. They sell it by the pound.
