What happened to rootnuke? I haven't seen an update in the rifle he's building in a while, now.

Last I heard he had job issues

The picture series on his website would make the start of a good book.

He was just getting to the fun part !!!

I had left Rootnuke my phone number and had invited him to go to the range with me and had a loaner rifle for him to use. I never heard back from him. :cry:I was looking forward to see how he was progressing with his engraving ball he made. He was making a great deal of improvement with his engraving. :applause: Being that he was in my area I was hoping to get some inlays engraved by him. Nothing fancy, but a little added decoration. I hope to hear from him soon.

Hey everyone,

Still waters run deep. I have been busy and have been working non-stop for about a month and it has pretty much worked all my gun hobby time to nuthin'. However... I have been able to work a whole 3 day's on my ML this past month, woop-di-do.

I have completed the patchbox inlay and patchbox release to about 95% and have finished the main "fluting" along each side the RR channel.

Other than cleaning up my work bench, thats about all I have done.

Amoung my many projects I switched ISP's (internet service providers) so the rootnuke.com website is down, but not for long. I continue to log my time and take pictures as I go through the build project. The DNS servers should resolve soon for rootnuke.com, then the site will be up.

This Saturday I will be taking the family to the Renaissance Festival which will be all day. I intend on having my fair share of beer and Turkey legs while my wife, 2 daughters, neice and her friend drag my happy butt through the events and shows for 12 hours.

Then, Sunday is MY day, gun day, all day and I will be working on the whatever needs to be finished or started on.

It seems there is always something going on that takes me away from the joy I get messin' with this labor of love.

Anyway, it's nice to be missed in the group.

PS: 3:00 am Monday morning I will be heading to Dallas :peace:
PPS: Maybe next weekend will be 2 day's of gun building, I hope so.

Wow, I am glad I saw this. I also am a (mostly) computer guy - well a Signal Corps guy and this gives me validation that I may be able to build muskets as well. It really does look good so far.

What pieces did you make yourself and what came as part of the kit? Or did it all come as part of a rough kit?

Where did you get the Colerain barrel? I have been unable to find any contact information for them. My wife talked to Rice Barrel, but they did not have the military smoothbore barrels I am looking for. She called Getz, but they must be very busy as they have not called back (but Rice says they probably carry early military smoothbores). I am still looking for Bess, Charlevalle, and Springfield 1795 barrels.

In any case, you are doing a fine job so far, I will be looking at your site often!

Edit-Oh, barrel came with the kit, missed that.
