Sounds like all of these responces a justifying the lower price Lee moulds. I've tried Lee and Lyman. The Lyman costs more but it's worth it. A little sand will ruin the Lee mold also. My opinion.

I'm getting set up to cast round ball, and the price difference between these molds is really astounding. I've got a guy wanting to sell me a brand new .535 single cavity Lyman mold for $43 delivered, but I look on midway and see double cavity Lee molds for sale for $19. What gives? Is the Lyman really that much better?

I have both, Lee & Lyman, I suppose it's up to the person which is better, I prefer the steel Lyman double cavity. :hmm:

What rifle are you casting for? I couldn't hardly get a .535 down my Green River, Orion or Green Mountain barrels. .530 works, but .527, .526 or even .520 are great. Lee makes a .527. I've just been shooting a .54 "Hawken" custom made rifle (not by me), lock and barrel made in Italy, and it sure liked .520s with 80 grains of Goex 3F and .020 OxYoke patches. Today I shot six shots at 50 yards from rest into one-half inch, center to center of widest shots. Velocity was 1614 fps, 35 fps spread, no wiping between shots. Had a similar group a couple of days ago. It did not shoot .530s and Goex 2F as accurately, which is only this rifle. But between a .530 and .535, go with the .530.

I'm casting for a green mountain barrel. Currently it likes .530 balls with .020 patches... I've been trying to wean it to a thinner patch because the .020 needs a whack with a mallet to get started... but so far haven't found anything else that it likes as well.

I like the Lee products better than Lyman. I have used both and eventually sold all my Lyman stuff on Fee-Bay.
