Which caps to use?

I have been away from BP shooting for several years. Now I'm getting back into it.
Need some help with some forgotten stuff. I have a made in Italy copy of a Remington 44, and a
Ruger old army which I think is a 457 Cal. I also have #10 and #11 caps.
So my question is which caps are correct for which pistol. Thanks,

Measure your nipples. The diameter at the tip of the cone will tell you. f the diameter is 0.155" the cap size is #10 CCI. If the diameter is 0.165" the cap size is #11 CCI.

You can also do a trial fit. If the #11 caps are loose and fall off the nipple, use #10 caps. If the hammer has to fall twice to get the #10 caps to fire, then you need #11.

Who makes a 10.5?

My Pietta revolver are like that. Remington 10 or CCI 11 are roughly identical in diameter, both just slightly too loose, pinching them a bit ovoid will remedy that. CCI 10 on the other hand need two (2) strikes to fire. I suppose either purchasing some of those special bespoke aftermarket nipples would be one solution. Not for an inveterate cheapskate frugal person like me.

Maybe chucking up the stock nipples in a drill and smoothing down the high spots with crocus cloth?

They do make 1075s. They are kinda in between . Come in a red plastic cap container I believe German.

The 1075 caps are from RWS. These are good caps and hot. May be tight if you have nipple for #11 caps.

Since 1990 have been adjusting nipples for my Caplocks , Revolvers and Muskets for my prefered caps at the time. Adjusting to larger or smaller caps. Rem, CCI and RWS. Chuck in a drill and shape with a diamond file for smaller. Carefully Tap to swage out with hammer and Phillips head driver for larger size. These simple adjustments have worked well enough to use in NMLRA/ NRA matches for many years with no issues...c

Stock Ruger cones seem tailored for Remington 10’s.

That's pretty slick right there, never would have thought of that. Just a few "love taps" will do it maybe?

I use a mini sledge hammer and tap gently checking for fit after 2 taps. If one side gets out of round be prepared to use a small file. Not hard, just time consuming. Those without much patience might find other pursuits better...c

I had always read that Remington #10's were the ideal fit on most Italian six guns. I have always made do with CCI #11s though, since they were the most consistently available around my locale, and because they fit most rifles well. A little squeeze to make them slightly oval and they have always worked well on my six guns.

In my old Euroarm Remington, made in the 1970s, and in my most recent Pietta .44s, a Lyman .451 cast round ball is a solid press fit in the chambers.
