Isn’t that a picture of Johnny Burgoyne?
Did not Burgoyne get his butt kicked at Saratoga? Mostly beaten by The Green Mountain Boys, John Starks patriots from NH, and a smattering of other assorted militias and patriots. The vaunted British Army would not have gotten that far if not for the Brunswickers who bailed them out at Hubberton.

General John Burgoyne, indeed!
Green Mountain Boys under Ethan Allen..., I think you're conflicting the Two Battels of Saratoga with Bennington VT?

I'd highly doubt that one would characterize 9000 Continental troops in the first battle outnumbering the British and 12,000 in the second battle a "smattering of other assorted militias", not to mention the British being outnumbered 2:1 in the second engagement.

Commanders for the Continental Army were Gates, Arnold, Lincoln, Poor, Learned, Livingston, and the famous Daniel Morgan. Johns Starks might have been there..., don't see him as one of the primary Continental Army commanders in what I've read... the 1st, 2nd and 3rd NH were under General Poor in both battels.

The book "Indian Trade Guns " by various contributors ISBM 0-913150-43-6 Has a lot of great information on flints in America , especially the early years . on page 190 it states the flints found in native camp sites in the late 17th centaury were Indian made chert , from 1700 -1750 French wedge shaped spall flints were found as well, The flints used in the French and Indian wars were Native chert or French Spalls .It wasn't until 1750 that English prism formed flints appeared , by 1775 all flints were prism shaped .
95% of the flints found in camp sites used in the American Revolution were of French origin , including British sites .
In the war of 1812 half the flints found are British make and half French .
So those with early American flintlocks should use either French Spalls or Native knapped Chert .

None of them.
ALSO,, neither the English or French flint will spark.
It's the Frizzen that sparks.
there would be no sparks with out no flint! you can strike all you want with out a flint and you will not produce any sparks!

Couldn't care less about a solo battle, when it comes to which flints are the best. ;)
It will one day be academic....,
There is sooo much flint in the UK that they also use it for building materials. o_O

My go to flints are English black or dark flints. Great spark and last the longest and easy sharpened. My 2nd favorite is the French Amber. Great sparks but don't seem to last as good as the English Black flints. I would not hesitate to use either for hunting or sport. Just keep and eye on them and sharpen them when they get a little dull.
