What brand of whisky?
Anyways, I had pretty much the same problem w/ my Lancaster. I wanted a deep reddish brown and couldn't find anything. A friend suggested mixing leather dyes. Thought about it, & since I do leather work also I had a modest selection of dyes. Started with Buckskin (a sort of yellow), put some Russet in, then a few drops of Red. Took a couple tries, using a scrap from the original stock, but finally came up w/ a solution that looked good. The Russet was the overpowering color, since it was the darkest, so didn't need all that much. You can mix just about any color you want, but leather shops are getting scarce as blackpowder dealers, & a selection of dyes could become a problem besides cost. Somebody out there may have a better stain source; I be looking also.
