Anyone else whittle? A recent post reminded me of the memorialization I did about one of my favorite forms of hunting. White pine, front porch, cold beer......, oh yeah, sharp knife, Ah me.

Neat! What you did fits into the realm of "carving" to me.
Whittling is making a pile of shavings from a larger piece of wood that in the end resembles a sharp stick.....

Agree. Whittling is what the old men do who are sitting on benches in front of the county courthouse. Makin' shavings and talking.
Yers is a carving. Nice one too. I like.

Beautiful!

My Grandpa could do such work - animals, balls in cages & chains. I try but it all looks like blood-stained wads of used chewing gum. :idunno:

I'm especially impressed if the dogs and tree trunks are all one piece with the base. :rotf:

Whittling is the art of carving shapes typically out of raw wood or bone with a knife

Not trying to impress anyone, they are now a part of the larger whole, Glue.

Hey! That's one thing I do whittle. I make planting dibbles (short, sharp sticks for making holes in the dirt to drop seeds into). I'm good at those. I start with a piece of applewood and the leavings go into my smoker or grill for flavorings.

For Robby, THAT IS whittleing. Very nice Robby. No, I don't whittle. I always cut myself when I try.
That's because your knives are so sharp!
Good work, RObby!!

Not anymore! They will arrest you if you have a knife at the Court House these days :shake:

I can remember the old County Court House we had in my hometown. The old flat stones that capped the railing around the entrance is where they all would sit on Saturday morning and whittle. Some of the stones were worn down from where they had sharpened their knifes on them.

My-T-Fine work....make sure you sign it, so when it is seen on Antiques Roadshow, proper credit is given!

That is impressive! The only thing I've carved is a stopper for my horn, and it took several tries for that! Thanks for sharing the pics.
