I pulled the barrel off a rifle I recently purchased, looking for a makers mark or any other ID marks. This is what I found:

Wide grooves and narrow lands.

Who might the maker be?

.54 cal, maybe 1:54 twist? 🤔

1.54 could mean the rate of twist, 1 in 54", or a round ball twist which might also handle conicals fairly well.
By comparison, mine has a 1 in 72" twist, which is rifled for round ball. "54" is probably the nominal caliber, but I'd mike the bore to check before buying balls.

Thank you gents.

I also believe it is a DeHaas barrel. It is no doubt a .54 caliber, .543 actually.

Once @BJHabermehl gave me a name, I was able to find other barrels of his that have the same 1:54 twist.

Sounds like Mark DeHaas worked for H&H barrels and then continued on his own. Everyone who had one of his barrels really praised its performance. I can't wait to put a few shots through this one. It's 36" long and the gun handles very nicely. It has a Leonard Carver lock, and now, a DeHaas barrel.

@IanH Thanks man. If it would quit raining I would step outside and give it a try. It's the nicest contemporary piece I've yet owned. The side plate is engraved "C. McCain" Not sure if that was the builder or the owner. Perhaps both.
