I'll be the first to admit that I go to many Vous' for the fine dining... I feel like a camp follower goin' from one set of tents to the next, it's like a buffet line at some events...

Seriously, I spend a good deal of time collecting recipe's, documenting other folks gear, learning cooking techniques. Probably as much time as I spend shooting. I'll also admit that I'm hooked on collecting the cooking gear. I try to limit that to as late as the 1840's but do cross the line.

Anyrate, I love to cook about as much as I enjoy eating. My fire iron set for camp is pretty interesting and well appointed.

I also have a pretty good handle on a trekking set of tools, very minimalist and yet very effective.

Anyone else love the campfire cookin'...? Coffee on and breakfast started before dawn and the camp awakens?

Absolutely! Everything tastes better over a fire! I'd like to try more recipes and styles of cookware, fire irons, etc. but my family gets kinda scared when I have to mix ingredients

I love to eat at the vouzs. They call me camp dog because I visit all the camps during cooking times. I also love to wake up and have the coffee.

oh yeah, the smell of coffee steaming, bacon sizzling, 'taters and onions browning sure wakes up the taste buds.

Coffee came to the colonies long after the tea's. The first product shipped back from both James town and Massachutes bay colony was Sassafrass. I have a pot of sasafrass tea at all of my rendezvous. The main reason I go is to cook and eat the old style foods.Bacon, eggs, venison and wild rice, roasted meats of all kinds, and especially apple coblers and maple and honey icecream! :hmm: Dried apples rehydrated with rum! :hmm:

Alright you guys, knock it off. I just gained 5 pounds just reading this thread. :rotf: :rotf:

some fine dining can come out of a DO over a good bed of hardwood coals.
one of my favs is venison stew topped with biscuit dough then baked again until the biscuits make, sort of a cross between 'pot pie' and 'dumplings'.
washed down with the libation of your choice of course. I prefer dry red wine.

Cooking anything over a fire makes it good eats. But anytime I'm at an event with Baby's Fry Bread stand, I can't help but get my hungry face on.
