jim chambers pistol kit.........

Hi Bob , I have one I'm putting together . I'm quite pleased with it . Mine has a Getz .45 cal barrel . I got a cherry stock for mine and it's a nice piece of cherry , with no flaws . The lock , side plate and barrel channel are pre-inletted . So far , I have the barrel , lock , sideplate , trigger and trigger plate installed . The only issues I've had with it is that I needed to cut more threads on the tang bolt , so you may need to get a die and die stock ,if you don't already have one . The other issue is that since the stock is pre-inletted for the sideplate and lock , you have to go with what you have , if you know what I mean . The rear lockbolt worked out fine but the foreward lockbolt is at more of an angle than I would have liked , but this could also be due to my inexperience . However , I think if the sideplate was a little longer allowing the hole for the foreward lockbolt to be about an eighth of an inch farther foreward , it would have worked out better . These are minor issues , and so far the pistol looks and works fine . I am quite pleased with the quality of the kit , and I would not hesitate to buy another one .

i held a .54 swamped barrel at dixion's fair at jim's booth and it held real nice and fit my hand good....i thought i just gotta have this....and at just a little over 400.00 bucks it's a good deal to me :v ..............bob

I thought the same thing when I saw the pic of the pistol on thier website . I paid $525 for mine . The price they give you for the kit does not include the price of the barrel . Still , for what you are getting , I think the price is fair . If you have any problems or questions they are answeared promptly , I even spoke to Mr. Chambers himself when I thought I had a problem with my lock . My other questions were answeared by his daughter Barbie . The trigger had me a little confused , because it has a little half round tab on the top of it and I wasn't sure if I should file it off or not , since it didn't look like the triggers in the two gun building books I have . Although there is a drawing and instrucions for installing the trigger , the drawing wasn't all that good and the instructions wern't clear enough , at least for me , anyway . I was going to contact them for more info , but before I could I saw a post here on the forum by "Static XOOd" that clairified everything (thanks a million Static) . If you take your time and fit it carefully you will get a smooth , light trigger . If you decide to get this pistol , I don't think you will be disappointed . BTW , if you don't already have a jewelers saw , I highly reccomend one , I think it is much better than a hacksaw for gun building . And is perfect for elongating the holes in the barrel tennons . I would also reccomend a HIGH QUALITY half round needle file (fine cut) . It will cost a little more than a whole set of the cheap ones , but IMO it is money well spent .

I'm drooling over one also. I think it will be my introduction into "real" kits, as opposed to the factory ones I've been building. I haven't heard anything bad about them, and knowing the quality he's famous for, it sure looks tempting. Good price too!

I have one and am happy with it. Mine is in .50 to match my rifle. I would have preferred a shorter barrel & you have to take the good with the bad (easier conctruction vs no ability to move the lock) with the pre-inlet stock. I paid to upgrade the wood & got a really nice piece. I think most folks will like the kit/gun.

Don't ya just hate when you get that "I got to have this" feeling. :)

It sure does look like a gem.
