My Jug Choked .62cal is out of it's case and in the rack...printed off a stack of Turkey targets last week...want to shoot it some more before our April season opens

I just purchased a chrome lined 12 ga barrel with extra full choke (0.690). Still need to do load development but should reach out and touch the turkeys from quite a distance.

P.S. Is there a non-toxic shot that can be used without a shot cup? Would like to try this out on ducks/geese too

I hope to christen my soon to be New England Fowler With a Turkey. We don't start till mid April so still have plenty of time before the season starts here.

Bismuth is non-toxic and will not need a shot cup. Not sure, but I think you can use copper clad shot also without a cup.

gobble gobble :rotf: ....but i will be using my bow fer spring turkey in PA, i don't have a shot gun....got a flock hanging out where i hunted deer this year and it's the same flock i could have taken one in fall when i was out in small game season, and thought turkey was closed so i didn't shoot the biggest turkey i ever saw :shake: , oh well :v ..............bob

Hope to be able to hook up with my son again this year. He got that Brown Bess a bit ago and he's hoping to have it ready for spring turkey.

I've been thinking "turkey" since the end of deer season. Here in NY we have to wait till May 1, OH NO it's way to far away yet. I sure envy you guys that start in March and April. Darn, now I have to go put a turkey hunting tape into the VCR!

Had 7 gobblers standing under my bird feeder this afternoon, right at the edge of the patio. One was about 8" beard with 1.5 " spurs. I have taken lots of em---- with both shot and PRB, but I can't shoot one any more. :surrender: :surrender:

here ya go trapper :v ...........bob

Yep, won't be too long now. Our season starts the middle of next month. I will most likely be out with the Bess carbine this year.

I just got my spring permit in the mail yesterday. My season is April 23rd through May 6th. I'll be using my 12ga English Fowler, it's a proven turkey killer.

White Buffalo, Ya got them eating right out of that white bowl! How did ya train them to do that? I can't stop droowling!!!! Where's that dang fowler. Help, I gotta go to Wally World after another Turkey tape.

Soon I'll be patterning my 12 Ga. Pedersoli side-by-each for Turkey. I have taken a few birds with modern guns but this will be my fist attempt at a Tom with a smoke pole. I'll be hunting in SW Wisconsin in April. My partner wants to capture the moment on video. If the hunting gods smile on me I'll try to share it with all.

Good Luck!!

I can't wait. Going to go to a friends farm, he has seen three flocks hanging around. He is doing the trad. bow hunt, I'm doing the 45 Kentucky hunt.

Never taken a turkey, missed a few with my bows, set friends up for excellant shots, but I never got one. Maybe this year, new old gun, prim. clothing.

We open April 25 here in Ontario. I'll be toting my 20ga. Caywood Type "C". I bagged both my Toms with it last year, and am looking forward to making smoke in the turkey woods again soon. 52 more sleeps!

Need to have some snow melt here before the turkey season opens. Have taken 32 birds with modern equipment. Looks like I will need a ML shotgun too real soon. Left over tags go on sale this month. Last year I was able to shoot 3 toms in the spring and another 2 birds in the fall.

when i lived in Indiana as a wee lad, my pop bought 220 acres in evansville indiana, and we just planned a trip out there since we kept it just to hunt. The whole deal is strip mined, and the lumber dudes planted evergreens on the whole thing. Turkeys love it, not unusual to work more than 3 birds in a morning. Anyone know if opening day is still the last wednessday of april in southern indiana (when we are planning the three day hunt ), their web site only shows last year my dad said. gobble gobble
