Here in Oregon, I drew a muzzleloader tag for one elk -- cow or bull, in a hunt here in the south Cascades in mid-November.
Who else is hearing from their state fish and game department on draw results for next fall?

don't have to send it in fer elk in PA yet....i think it's in august some time....wish me luck..........bob

Ohh, you mean wild free ranging Elk, Bob meant the ones in the local zoo. :: You don't need to draw a permit for them, just hunt after the zoo closes for the day.

man i can't git anything past ya reb....

bill....yup beleve it or not..............bob

2005 Elk License Application ($10.00)

This single application qualifies the applicant to be included in a random drawing for elk licenses for hunts that will be held in November 2005 and September 2006 (Do not submit separate applications for each hunt, submitting more than one application per license year is unlawful.). The drawing for the November hunt will select 40 applicants to purchase one of 10 antlered and 30 antlerless elk license. The second drawing will select 10 applicants to purchase one of 2 either-sex and 8 antlerless elk licenses for the September 2006 season. This single application form entitles you to apply for one, or the other, or both drawings! The cost is $10, regardless of whether you select one hunt, or both hunts. If selected, a Pennsylvania resident is entitled to buy an elk license for $25; nonresident, $250. Non-residents have an equal opportunity in all elk drawings. Individuals drawn for an Antlered or Either-Sex elk license in a prior year are not eligible to apply for five license years. Successful applicants must obtain a Pennsylvania general hunting license for the appropriate license year. Details about the drawing will be provided on the Game Commission's website www.pgc.state.pa.us, at a later date.

Bob, well it sure is cheaper to shoot an elk there than here. We do have a General season tag we can buy over the counter, but the cost of a resident tag here is 34.50. If you want to apply for the controlled elk hunts the application fee is $4.50. Deer tag is up to $19.50. Seems like every year they raise the prices on tags and about licences. A hunting license is $22.50 and a combo hunting/fishing license is $43.75 Good luck on the elk.

I drew a muzzleloading cow tag in Colo $35 and a cow tag in Wyo $500. Wyo doesn't have a muzzleloading season, so will use my flinter in the reg season.

Kentucky's draw is not until August - drawing 100 tags this year, up to 200 next year. 10% of the total draw can be to non-residents. The heard in the state now topping 4000.

Bill, you would think so huh. I know a lot of people that used to buy tags aren't any more becasue of the constant increases. I didn't apply for any big game hunts this year because of that. The F&G department in this state is a joke. They are more concerned with managing money than fish and wildlife. They may find that they price themselves into the hole though, as more and more people refuse to buy tags, and they increase the amount again to try make up for the lose of income, so more people refuse to buy tags, and so on and so on.

For the first time in 15 years I did not get the 100M ML tag (some guy with an in-line got it ) but got a 6 month (any deer) tag for Willamette unit, I'll just buy a general buck tag and bewilder the regulars with my 18th century outfit during the general buck hunt, I've had some almost drive off the road when I stepped out of the brush. Good luck on your Elk hunt.

Well Reb, before you get your hopes up, be aware they are giving out a grand total of 40 permits for this year. Also, the PGC stongly urges you to hire a local guide, whose fee is well over a $grand. I did read of one guy who last year spent weeks and days scouting the area he chose and was successful. And the herd seems to be declining, for what ever reason (poaching, crop damage?). Finally, don't expect to shoot your elk at 200 yds across a wide meadow like you see on OLN, this is PA buddy. BTW, motorized vehicles are not permitted to retieve your elk off of public hunting land, if you are successful.

Sounds kinda like here. :: Getting worse all the time here. Closing more and more logging roads, cutting off access to public land, no vehicles, higher prices. Yep, it ain't like the good 'ol days.

Not a bad idea - the heard here of Rocky Mountain transplants have done very well. In some places they are starting to become a problem already, several have been hit by cars in the last year.

:hmm: :hmm:...Not all that far from North Carolina...probably have some migrating this way before long.

In the meantime, I'll be getting my season's tags after July 1st:
6 Buck & 2 Doe tags !!

::

Didn't put in for any special hunts this yr..will just hunt two public land areas. One is muzzleloading only and allows 2 bucks per day and no limit on hogs or their sex or size. The other area is a modern gun area..with same bag limits..I will hunt with flintlock on both areas. I think you can kill all the passenger pigeons in there you want also.

TG: Sure hope there's some orange in your outfit. I shudder to think about busting the deer brush in a nice walnut-stained fustian frock coat and braintan leggins with some of the idiots who call themselves hunters these days -- you know, head-to-toe Cabela's camo, new synthetic magnums, new crew cab diesel rig and hunting within 200 yards of the road in lodgepole thickets. Lord have mercy!
That Willamette one-deer tag has long intrigued me. Hope you bag your venison and report here.

Oooooopppppps...I meant to say 6 tags: 4 Bucks and 2 Does !

Got a bull tag for ML season here in Colorado and a doe tag for a later rifle season, but will still use my smoke pole. Going up to the hills this weekend to scope out the elk area and camp site. This is an annual three family affair that is always fun. May even wear my mountain man attire this year.
