My loading 'System' is starting to come together. Im my gathering of information and trying different lubes and ball size and patching......I have one that is working OK in my small bores, and wanted to try it in my rough bored .73 cal. rifle :yakyak:

Anyway , It was a little breezy, but I shot a nice 3 shot group at 100yds. off the bench. Guess it is time to finish the sights and tune it in.

Had a good shoot!

110 degrees is too hot to shoot, so I took my new Tennessee to a local gunshow.

Not much happening there. Someone wanted $395 for a used TC Hawken, complete with dings in the wood. :rotf: Lots of plastic guns but they don't interest me.

Several folks really liked my Tennessee until they heard the price I was asking.
Speaking of that, one guys jaw almost hit the floor when I told him what it would cost him.
He said "Just a couple of weeks ago, I bought a muzzleloader just about like it for $50. I was hopeing to get another one for $50 to go with it." :shocked2:

I know it's just a plain Walnut stock with iron furniture but $50???

Well, the grain is running the wrong direction in the wrist section, I can understand the $2000 price reduction because of that, maybe he could too... :rotf: :rotf: :blah:

Plus...it's one of them modern contraptions with no place for a flint...also, could probably get a higher price if it had a nice TC brass patchbox to carry extra GPS batteries

Now if it only had an acorn finial and a 1:48 inch twist... :hmm: :haha:

slinging lead alas no, 2 x 12 hour shifts held me up a tad this weekend, of course it means I can afford to buy my double hammer shot gun now, so not all bad, hope the rest had fun and raised hell.

Well, that's not a bad outcome...what are you getting?

hopefully make it out this afternoon and shoot the john armstrong 45 flintlock a bit. usually make it out once a week and shoot around 25 times. thats funny about, bought one like it for 50 bucks a week ago. the wife and her sister had a garage sale yesterday and I put a lyman deerstalker on the sale, I'm sure if it would have been an inline I would have got some offers. Most around here don't even know what a flintlock is. flinch

My weekend already happened. Shot on Thursday. There was a group of plastic gun guys doing timed fire shooting. Let one of 'em try the flintlock. First words out of his mouth were "WOW, that went off FAST." Spent some time doing a dog and pony show for him. Might have a convert in the making.

I made it to the range today. Beautiful day with a light breeze and 65 degrees.
I spent a large part of my time there helping an older gentleman with his T/C Renegade.
He seemed to be having trouble hitting the target so I offered my assistance.
He was shooting a .50 cal using 30 grains of Goex 2f :shocked2: and a patch lubed with a drop of 3 in 1 oil :shocked2:
I first offered to clean his bore for him after the 3 in 1 shooting. It took 10-12 patches with Black Off just to start coming out gray. I took the brass brush to it and loosened even more fouling then I wiped it with more patches and finally got a clean bore.
I gave him some pre-lubed .015 patches and suggested he up his charge to 60 grains for starters.
After all of the work I shot a three shot group of about 4 inches with it. Not a bad start.
He took up the rifle and put a few shots on paper.
He left a lot happier with his rifle and I was happy to help :)

Its an italian made side by side shot gun with english made vickers barrels, Its not a muzzle loader but I am figuring I can load some black powder rounds for it if i get the urge. I am getting it for some serious roo control on a guys property hes over run here at the moment and the time to load and fire with a ML is sort of out of the question especially when on the back of a truck.
The thing has never been used barrels look like mirrors and the lock is stiff from lack of use, so for $550 aus not a bad buy. With the permit to aquire in now I will pick up about mid month and use straight after.

Is "roo" short for kangaroo?

If so, what kind of average size/weight do you run across...ie: the shotgun, I guess you'll be using something like buckshot?

Did my usual thing and went to the range Thursday afternoon to shoot the dueling pistol. I was the only one out there. After a couple of shots the duty RO pulled up. Same guy I let shoot my flintlock last week (see previous post). He figured it was me doing the shooting and wanted to play again. Let him shoot the pistol a few times. Now he wants to put in for a Muzzleloader tag next year. Think I got him hooked good.

Don't know what you're looking for to get started back into it but from what I've read and heard, pawn shops seem to be good places to pick up good condition used MLs
