If you don't want to go thru reading all of that, heres my opinion (backed by facts).

Leaded steel is as strong as the plain low carbon unleaded steel many muzzleloading guns are made from.

It does not weld easily because of the lead.

The lead serves as a lubricant for the cutting tools. This allows much faster machining with less tool wear.

The percentage of lead in the steel must meet the standards set by the steel industry.
