Had one of those range sessions yesterday where I could do no wrong. Nice tight off hand groups with the flintlock at 25 yards. Started shooting those little steel javelinas at 50 yards off hand and couldn't miss. Even ran a couple of straights at the skeet range right afterwards (not with a muzzleloader, though).
But I know it won't happen again in a long, long, very long time. :shake: Guess I have to enjoy it while I can.

I think what it boils down to is how much time and how often you can go to the range. As with anything else, the more practice, the better. If that is not an option then by all means enjoy your wonderful day at the range for as long as you can. Wish I could get a day like that.

Having those kinds of days every now and then sure beats not having them at all. I haven't had one in a long time.

:) Ihad one of those days back in the 60's at a us navy range. I took the boys into camp with a 30m1 carbine ,Against their M1's, All the way from 50 yd to 200 yds. Yes they will shoot that far!!!of course I had been a bad boy and sent to the range for two weeks ,to help the marines. yeah right Shot everything they had and burned a pile of ammo. then the rest were sent out to fire. days you would love to live forever!!!!!!!Bob

Love those days when it happens. They usually come along when I'm at the range playing by myself. Wish they would happen more often in competition. I just enjoy them when they come along.

BakeOven,
Glad to hear you had a great outing!
from reading the other posts, it pretty much sounds like knocking in a hole in one on the golf course and not having anyone around to verify!
But YOU know how you did and get to savor the results for ever!
I've seen you shoot, another outing will be just around the corner!

BTW, fhbpb has a primitive shoot in early oct!

Hey Bill

Was it before of after lunch? Those Javelinas are mighty tasty!

I think I mentioned this, but at a recent rendezvous I shot the rifle trail and didn't do very good at all, just got a LOUSY score!
A few hours later, just for practice I went on the trail again and hit almost ALL of them!

GEEEZ!
At least you saw me hit that crow :)

Catch ya later

Yeah, I know, but I'll be trying to fill a mule deer tag. Who knows, if I fill out early I might make it.

I think I know some of what causes it. When I'm out shooting, I feel the stresses and worries of city life draining out. It's a lot like taking a mini vacation. By the end of my shooting session, I'm feeling relaxed and my mind is cleared of distracting problems. That's also when I do my best shooting, but alas, it's time to go home.

I think if we can clear a lot of that distraction out and relax before we shoot, we'd probably have a lot more of those days. A lot of competition shooters I've talked to have that kind of focus. They seem to be able to block out everything but their shooting. I sure wish I could master that.
