WILL NOT BROWN

Browning a Siler flint lock. Everything browning nicely but hammer. I have degreased, sanded emoried, naval jellied, but browning will not take on hammer. I have had success with Laurel Forge browning before whats up with the hammer.

Well that is unusual. Sounds like it may have some impurities in the steel. I would heat it real good & burn off any oil that may have gotten it the pores, rinse it off with water, pour some Clorox in a bowl & put it in the bowl & see if it starts to rust. If it don't, you need another hammer......... :hmm:
