I have purchased but not yet collected a (notionally) 12 bore Tubelock. i'm rather pleased and want to share

Auction description as follows

'William Moore percussion tubelock side by side double barrelled sporting gun with named and engraved lock, engraved scenes of dogs to the trigger guard, scrolling engraving to the butt plate, hammers and top plate, chequered grip, vacant wrist cartouche, brass tipped wooden ram-rod and 32 inch Damascus barrels engraved 'William Moore 78 Edgeware Road London', overall length 122cm'

my limited 'research' is that the maker was at 78 Edgeware road from 1828 and changed the company name in 1836 giving upper and lower dates for the gun
https://www.wmg-london.com/history/

i didnt take any pictures at the viewing, but both barrels have the crown over curly 'P' type London proof marks, bores are good, some sections of shallow pitting.
i was surprised how heavy the barrels are, but maybe i dont have a good frame of reference, i'll weigh everything next week.

gun points well, fits me close enough to be easily shootable, and i'll try and take it on a walked up pheasant day in January. I might need to sweet talk the keeper because i dont think they've ever had a muzzle loader there. failing that i'll take it squirrel stalking in the summer and maybe see about finding some pigeon shooting.

Below are some pictures taken by the auction house, the quality is varied

How are you going to make the tube primers?

Capandball makes tubes at 6 minutes in the above video. Using brass foil and roll of caps for toy cap guns. I expect I'll need to experiment with sizes.

How does the saying go?

'We do these things not because they are easy, but because we thought they would be easy'

A nice looking gun just hope it shoots ok for you , I used to make my own tubes using copper tubing purchased from a model make shop that was way back in the 1980,s,If you have not shot a tube lock you will find no difference to a percussion cap .Good luck on your purchased .

Very nice…
Congrats
Always wanted to play with one - maybe someday..
Enjoy!

Overall the gun weighs 7lb 13 oz. barrels are 4lb 12 oz. Idk why but I was expecting it to be light like an early 20th century English game gun.

Just found this post of Tube lock by Wm Moore Then I see ' Felt Wad'already covered it. Nice gun Ive a much worn double 14 bore By Chas' Moore but its just the copper cap. The hobby shop thin tube is what ide use useing the blue stuff from the old 126 primers ( made for 303 reloads) I made a L&R' Late English' lock to make a single gun go by Tubelock but never used it . I was experimenting to make a rifle flintlock but alterable to the copper caps . same gun (different details in shoots) .Hawker mentions the alteration but the stresses he & I found too much and so fail hence the entire new lock .. The only real plus of Tube V Copper cap are it was considered more certain in damp conditions such as the Wildfowling he was so passionate about. sort like fireing a pistol into the vent . My Chas' Moore was made from some sort of Tube or pellet primer but done by them If theres some responce Ile send pics .Rudyard

Well that is a response Ile go dig out the locks to take pics for you be a pleasure to please such as **** a in flint **** not anyother or a row oxxxxx s
Felt Wad who always gives the Forum good pics & info pics took but lle send later when my computer savvy daughter can post it it will shew the unfinished lock next the rifle I wanted the optional ignition for. Plus a set of parts I got from Dyson years go plus the lazy' L' shape that will answer as a hammer when held like a flint, with the nippled added flint pan it held then blew open hence the other L&R with my unfinnished **** or Hammer in this case . Rifle is of my make, pure target use Too heavy to haul in the bush ! .More annon with the pics tomorrow .
Cheer's Rudyard. My daughter just ran the pics trust makes sense

PPS the xxxx s go" a doodle doo " in farm yards ( such nonesense ) Mabee the action of pulling one back to half & full might get auto censored ?
