I have sworn by windex with ammonia since I was a teenager, ever since then I haven't seen a speck of rust, works on corrosive surplus ammo residue too, which is much more corrosive than black powder in some cases. I did use a vinegar concoction prior to that and rusted the living manure out of my rifle.

I saw an article on here before about cleaning with windex and vinegar. What ratio do you mix it?

I have used nothing but plain water to clean my BP guns for over 20 years and have never seen a reason to change. All these magic formula cleaning solutions are unnecessary.

One man's opinion, but it's free.

Me too

I use cheap Dollar General glass and surface cleaner with citrus. It does a great job and it don't stink up the house. I'm happy the guns are clean and most important my little bride is happy
