Its gonna get COLD down here Sunday or Monday night!! Might even get down to Freezing Temps! :surrender: :grin: I'll probably be picking a couple or 3 heads of Broccoli next week, and I will have to put a "Frost Blanket" over my crooked necked squash I have growing. They have 3 or 4 blooms on them.
I know some of the Amish folk around here and they taught me to use hay as a cover. A good 6-8 inches thick and maybe 4-6 inches on both sides of the row should be sufficient for frost protection. I do know of a few others who use this method in Wisconsin; the hay retains heat and moisture for the crop as well as maintaining a constant temp in the soil. Any snow that falls will insulate the hay further. Works quite well for February/March harvesting of potatoes and other such vegetables.
