I am fairly new to the forum. I have been registered for quite a while but mostly just a reader gathering information. I am considering a Track of The Wolf kit as a winter project. I am looking at one of the 32 caliber left hand flintlocks. Have any of you had any experience with their kits? Is the quality good? I have pretty fair skills in gunstocking, albeit modern bolt rifles, but want to build a flintlock. I have been shooting muzzle loaders for many years, just never have built one. Any advice or thoughts? Thanks, Mart.

Welcome to the forum. I assembled a t.o.w. trade gun over last winter-it stretched into spring and early summmer. Just because I wasn't really in a hurry.
I was pleased with the quality of the "kit". As has been mentioned many times before these are really more an assembly of parts then kits. I found this forum and the builders who post here to be of considerable help.
You will want to get at least one book on rifle building. Track offers some good ones.
Track will not give you step by step instructions. Thats why the books are of such help. But with your experience, you won't have any problems.
Enjoy!

When you are ready to order, be sure and call Track and tell them exactly what you want, asking them if it is in stock.

They have sent out several "partial" boxes of parts with some of the major pieces missing because "They are on back order".

Back order has equated with several long months for some folks.

Just finished a haines rifle from them .Taking it out tommarow to shoot for first time. If you are uncertain about anything when building ask on forum first will save you time and miserly.

Thanks for the speedy replies and the good advice. I am planning on getting some good books before embarking on this project. I rely heavily on books for my other projects so will read up on the subject. Thanks again. Mart

also if ya can find one close to home....there's a shop called dixons 117 miles from me and would ba worth it to me and drive down there and have my parts in hand to see....at the fair i bought what i needed but rod pipes..................bob

Ye first time builders, take note!
Old Bob..Ah mean White Bufflo was a normal easy goin guy before he came hear.
Then he got a bee in his bonnet to restock his TC Hawken.
Ah tried ta warn him . Ah tol him once you build one of these things you will be hooked an end up spendin thousands of dollers buyin kits for years to come. Wood he lisen? Noooooo.
Now he's building a gun frum the raw pieces frum places like TOTW and Pecatonica River!! ::

He's doomed to a life of having a great hobby!

:)

zonnie,

Thanks for the warning, but I have gone so far around the bend as a gun nut that I doubt there is any hope for me. I just have to accept that I am incurable. The gun bug is certainly infectious. Mart

I'm still waiting for my front sight post after two intermidable months! this seems to be Track's chief flaw. by all means, verify via phone.
