I keep seeing WM Large as being a very good barrel. I know some of the history of Bill Large but what makes his barrel so good? Thanks Ike.
In the 1950s there were only a handful of barrel makers. Bill Large got good heavy equipment and had the knowledge to use it to produce very uniform bores. Then he rifled them with narrow lands and wide grooves. Easy to load a tight combination and get a good seal. He also managed to put a little choke on the bore at the muzzle. Once short started, the ball seated easily. Plus his barrels won a lot at Friendship, and he was a larger than life personable fellaI keep seeing WM Large as being a very good barrel.
