Looks to be English walnut, very pretty.

Yeah, that stock is a real beauty. The pattern reminds me of pine bark.

The burl is beyond fantastic! I think it is Circassia walnut. Possibly from the root of the tree. The carver really knew his business. Notice the grain straightens out at the wrist for strength.

Pretty much all British London Best and Birmingham manufactured guns had wood like that. And most still do today.

I have a German unmentionable with very similar good wood. Gun was proofed in 1880.
