I have a wooden powder horn that my father gave me,and I believe it's older than him. He's 78. Anyone seen one made out of wood before?

Small internal crack at the top side of the picture. Other than needing a small plug and a leather strap I think I could use it

I’d say hand carved. As far as the crack from what I see in the photo I would warm some beeswax and fill the crack. Then use some beeswax and oil (olive oil, canola oil, mineral oil) to massage the exterior. You could try oiling the leather unless it’s too far gone. Can’t tell from the photos, I like Neatsfoot oil for leather.

If nothing else, use it as a pattern , make a copy of it , and use the copy. I been here 76 yrs. ,and dog gone , If I ever heard of a wood horn. Walnut horn like that one ,would look classy , with my W.V. Cheat River , walnut wood .40 cal. rifle.

I'll probably never use it. Wouldn't mind trading for roach belly or a antler handled knife!

I wonder is that meant to be a powder horn or a blowing horn? Wood isn’t as good at keeping moisture out as horn is and the cap being removable catches my eye. Also is the tip shape more of a mouth piece Or is that a cap I’m seeing?

It has no plug in it,long lost probably. I believe it's a powder horn. Strange that it is wood, but these days nothing shocks me anymore. My best guess is someone did this to pass time
