Would this flintlock fit on a CVA Kentucky pistol 45Cal.???

Hi I just purchased a open 45 Cal. CVA Kentucky pistol kit. It is missing the Flintlock and I see this one that looks nice on ebay a CVA flintlock 4 7/16" x 1". Does anyone know if it would fit? If it does if it's a good buy? Newbie here just getting into Black powder. 2nd kit have a Mountain pistol kit 50 cal. That I'm about to start to build. Please if anyone can help out of this would fit or not on the CVA Kentucky 45Cal. pistol? Thanks , Paul

My personal opinion, and l’m not knockin’ CVA’s but, l wouldn’t give that much for a CVA lock unless it had the rest of the gun with it.

Deer Creek Products might have what you need. They handle a lot of CVA parts.

You may be better off converting it to percussion, cheap flintlocks are a pain.

Deercreek only has a percussion lock for that gun. It's priced at $ 55.00.
The gun works/muzzleloading emporium has a selection of locks, don't know what price range but probably cheaper than Ebay.

I’m a feller that shoots CVA guns. I have one like yours in percussion. It was bought about 30 years ago in a pawn shop for $25. It has been shot a lot, is accurate at close range and is still going strong.

I would definitely check the places mentioned above to see if you can beat the price. I suspect you are going to still end up investing more money than the gun would be worth if you tried to sell it. However, if you get the proper lock you could have a decent pistol that would give years of service. It just won’t have a high resale value.

Keep watching eBay, I have seen a bunch of CVA flintlocks come up in the past. No way is that lock you pictured is worth what the seller is asking, that is the covid lockdown, ammo shortage price, they usually go for around $75.

I'd put a 'want to buy' ad here and as many other places as you can. If you even find a lock at any of the places these other fellers have mentioned it's gonna be priced about like that ebay lock. And again, this is my opinion only, that'd be like that old cowboy sayin' about puttin' a 40 dollar saddle on a 10 dollar horse.

The one you picture looks to be a Thompson Center or Lyman GP lock and would be way to big. CVA used the same lock for all their rifles and pistols for many years so keep checking ebay or bight the bullet and order the L&R replacement lock. Much more expensive but it is a top quality lock and will perform well while the CVA flintlocks are pretty lightly built and often don't work long. A flinter develops many different stresses not found on a percussion.

No it would not work. Look at the first picture you post of the box, the tail of the lock is pointed, in the second picture it is rounded and I have never seen a CVA lock with that kind of engraving. Good luck with your search.
