Well went huntin' with my rocklock this am. About 7:30 saw 2 does walk out of a thicket heading towards a pine grove. Thought I'd wait and see if there was a buck following. Lo and behold when I turned my attention back to where they just come out there HE stood. A big bodied, 4 pointer!! Thought about what my son said "don't you shoot no scrub bucks, cause there's a nice wide 8-9 point working the area around here!"
Well, long story short. I left him walk to grow up a little bit. When he walked back into the woods alongside of me, he was about 15 ft away. he knew something wasn't right, but, never ran, just walked off into the woods.
It took every bit of my huntin' fiber to do that, but in retrospect, it was a neat feeling too.
Maybe tonight...Bud

Yeah I believe it, done it myself and it is a good feeling. Just think, that deer just might be a wide 8 or 9 point next season. :hatsoff:

Well done amigo! :hatsoff: He deserves a chance to grow up!

Years back, I had a wise uncle who taught me the difference between fishing and catching fish, & I learned to love fishing. I believe the same concept applies in your appreciation for hunting.
Sometimes the best trophies aren't those that can be mounted.

Yeah I did the same thing two weeks ago. I actually drew my bow on a small four pointer. I chose not to take it.
Of course since then, Ive been out three times and I havent seen one lol. But I'm going out tommorow and Sat. I'm confident it'l pay off.......I hope lol

 Well Nifeman

You are a special breed, and I admire you for that. However I say, if there is one on the ground, well hell that beats 2 in the bush any days...
OOPs so sorry I am actually am a meat hunter... You have Nice nerves, and are a great sport... Me I s a meat hunter... I'd of dropped 'em,,,

My best regards just a loyalist Dawg :hatsoff: :rotf: :rotf: :rotf: :rotf: :rotf:

You did the right thing unless your desperate for meat. I only shoot 8 point with antler spread wider than the ears minuimn. That goes for my stickbows also.

If more people did that overa short period of time they would be seeing many more mature animals.

Shoot a doe if you want meat, you'll be helping the herd at the same time.

You're tired of dragging deer out of the woods and getting 'em loaded up in back of a pickup too, I see :haha: ( :v ).
