My TOTW jaeger kit arrived today, or at least most of it did! I'd like to thank all of you that helped me decide on this over the pedersoli one, I can tell already that it was a wise decision.
I still need the Barrel and lock as they were both backordered. Hopefully they arrive soon. In the meantime there's plenty of brass to clean up, and wood to shape, plus I need to go shopping for a drill press! :D

I also have the shumway's "Jager rifles" and "Recreating the american longrifle" books to read through!

I'm happy today!

Hey IM in the same boat. My parts are on the way for my Tennessee rifle. I have the barrel and lock and other small parts coming but no stock. Back Ordered with no time estimate when I will see it.

Well it looks like it'll be a while on mine too- David ripplinger just e-mailed me. the barrel is expected this summer, no ETA on the lock. :curse: It's the standard Jager lock, but with the new "germanic" cock. If It doesn't come in by the time the barrel does, I may go ahead and have them send me the regular Jager lock, and replace the cock later. In the meantime it looks like all I can do is fit the buttplate and clean up the castings. At least this will force me to take my time!

Congratulations sir! That sucks about the barrel and lock though. What kind of wood did you end up getting and did you get the pre-cut patch box? There are other suppliers for the Colerain barrels and the Davis Jaeger lock. They came out with the new Jaeger cock right after I finished mine  Maybe some day I'll upgrade. Have fun cleaning up the brass castings. Removing the casting gate from the sling button was challenging to say the least. I'm tempted to get a new pre-carved walnut stock to replace my curly maple and do some better carving this time around. Maybe a project for next winter. Once again, congratulations. Jim

I went with standard walnut and the patchbox. I also went with the "acanthus leaf" trigger guard, from which I'll have to remove the curl behind the trigger. I did this so it would match the buttplate. Yes, I too was suprised at the size of the gate on the button. it also has a pretty rough finish- reminds me of parkerized metal. Since this gun will be armory bright, I'll have to spend some time on that little guy.
Funny thing about the Lock, they're made north of here in Perrysburg. I have their catalog at home-they sell the Germanic hammer as a seperate piece. Track doesn't. It's a rough casting though, and the one track sells is finished FWIW. I've been studying both the shumway books. There are some amazing rifles in the Jaeger rifles one!
By the way, the Jager sling that track sells is the one that the leatherman makes- it even had their card in with it.

Hey Pcrum,
You might want to resist inletting that butt plate for awhile. Everything revolves around where the barrel and breachplug sit. Then inlet the lock and trigger. Then you can determine the lop for the butt plate. At least that's the way I do it. Have fun and good luck.

Hi Hank,
that sounds like good advise. I can always work on cleaning up the castings while I wait... :boohoo:
Cheers,

I believe the lock, barrel and trigger are already about 99% pre-inlet as well as the buttplate. I feel that you can safely work on fitting the buttplate now if you want to. It would be totally different if you were starting with a plank. I had a tough time getting my buttplate seated properly so go slower and smarter than I did. I ended up having to use some colored epoxy to hide a gap between the metal and wood :: oops.

Yea, I did consider that, and I still may- I'm just going to start on the small stuff, like cleaning up the pipes, trigger guard, sideplate, sling screw, etc. If, by the time I finish all that, I may go ahead with the buttstock work, or I may go ahead and start engraving the sideplate and triggerguard.
In the meantime, I have a hanger that I'm putting a new handle and guard on to look more like a Jagdklinge (hunting sword- according to the babelfish translator)
Cheers,
