I agree 100% kinda surprised at all the replies, yes the GPR is a good looking rifle, plan but simple. I am going to refinish the stock and eventually brown the metal. I just can't stand the standard look lol.

I am an Indian, if it was shiney we liked them. Also sometimes you will see a dragon fly likeness, we believed it would carry our prayers into the presence of the Creator. I realize they didn't stay that way but that did not matter.Also if it was taken in battle that was a way to show ownership.Sometimes done tastefully and sometimes not, but if you were showing off it did not matter. Also from todays stand point it depends if you are reenacting and what your persona is .I would not do it to an expensive gun but I did tack a a trade gun made from a kit and a blunderbuss just to look like it was taken in battle.Purely up to the person .

Okay, so if you were being chased across the desert by the US cavalry and you lost your gun during your hasty retreat, you would have a better chance of finding your rifle after the cavalry went home? Shiny tacks? No?

For those who didn't notice, there is a video in the thread linked below that discusses the Blackfoot Indians.
Towards the end of the video several Indian guns are shown that are decorated with tacks by the Indians.

IMO, this tack decorating thing was done by several Indian tribes but to the best of my knowledge, no white man ever did such a thing. Because of this, if you are reenacting as an Indian, such a gun would be suitable but if you were acting as a white or black man, your gun wouldn't have tacks on it.

I think they look tacky. Just my opinion.

No pun intended! As Zonie indicated, adding tack (bling) to their weapons was common amount the native Americans, just depends on your taste. They can get really gaudy in a hurry. Personally, I go for plainness.

Believe all of TOW’s tacks are plated brass. Not a fan of tacks on stocks, but would use solid brass ones if I were going to decorate a stock.

You're right; plated. That's a no-go.

I decided to not put tacks on and just refinish the stock and reshape the butt, took out some of the sharp curve.Added some stripes instead.
