Sorry, I've watched it half a dozen times and I still didn't get it. Sorry for being so dense, and I missed the knife metaphor entirely until posted as such.

It's not at all hard in print media to be too clever by a half and miss most of the bang for the buck.

This rifle is a version of a Thomas Simpson rifle which was a real made in Kentucky rifle. Not Pennsylvania. You can read more about the KY rifles in Mel Hankla's book.
