Too busy tilling and planting a garden and taking calves to market.

I did see a couple young gobblers that were pretty far out of range.

A little fellow that dressed to about 7 lbs. took with my TFC 70 grains with equal volume shot mixed of 6s and 4s, tow wad greased with lard and softened brown paper crumpled as top wad. Shot at about twenty yards.
Cut up and boiled meat striped from the bone. Then browned with mushrooms onions and green pepper, then a rue of butter rolled in flour and a little cream. Seasoned with sage and pepper, served on fat local Amish made noodles.

IF you have a gobbler dang near begged to a roost high winds should not be a game changer. YOU cant hear them but THEY can hear YOU. Sons 2nd turkey hunt we had a gobbler answer right after fly down but needed to race across about a 200 yd field. Boy cramped up (had to "go"). Abandoned that bird and got back to truck. Camped 1/4 mile away. About mid night 40MPH winds kicked up. We got in position and called. NEVER heard him but he came right in. 8 yd shot

Turkey hunting is the most fun af all IMO. I have some really wild stories (all true and if on tape I would be RICH!). Hit one in our camp returning from a hunt at 80 yds and killed him DEAD, never found the wound. Shot one dead (almost :shocked2 and picked him up by the neck, I gave a few chirps on the diaphragm call and he opened one eye and proceeded to shred the crap outta my coat and dang near lifted me off the ground (or so it felt) with both my hand round his neck! Son in hysterics yelling "Hold him still I got a shot". On way home he started cracking up again and said, "Dad, Nobodies gonna believe me when I tell em my dad had a fight with a turkey". My first turkey I shot too far (40 yds) and knocked him down, he got up, second barrel knocked him down, he took off running away as we stood there in disbelief. At about 100 yds he caught air, did a u-turn and gained altitude while I reloaded. He started dropping and was headed RIGHT for me. I only had time to shoot from the hip and dropped him, he landed about 5 feet in front of me. Turned around in shocked disbelief and there stands my best buddy holding a huge pine bough like a base ball bat "I had your back bro". OMG what fun can be had in the turkey woods.

I'm trying to make a trip to Oregon work but life keeps getting in the way! I love seeing you all's pics and hearing the stories!

we have no turkey season in this part of texas, I killed an eastern with my bow back in 2010 haven't had a turkey season in deep east Texas since then, however ive been killin quite a few hogs lately much better eatin in my opinion. may get to run to northwest Texas at the end of april. if so ill be killing a few birds

Due to an elderly mom im having to stay close to home cept for work of course so it aint looking good to limit out like I have done for the past 40 yrs. Hope to get to go a time or two more before season closes at the end of this month.

Nice, you were blessed. AWESOME green feathers on the breast. Had to go thru same thing with my pop in 2011, killed an elk off the highway during one of my 45 hunt times, good meat!
