What type of threads should be on a nipple that would be used in an older zoli zouave?

Quite simply it can be one of three
8x1.25
5/16x24
5/16x18
Without measuring I wouln't try and guess. Take it down to your local Tool & Die maker and get him to measure it for you or order in an end tap of each size and DIY. The expence of the tap is not a loss as they can be used to "freshen" up the threads at a later time.

Along the do-it-yourself line, you can take the nipple to any good hardware store and match it to a nut that fits, in the bulk fasteners section.

The die is not a bad thing to have, but this way you only buy one.

My 1969 Zoli Zouave uses a 5/16x24 threaded musket cap nipple.

Owning a thread gauge is not a bad thing.
I have a Armi Jaeger Zouave with 8mmx1 nipple and a Armi San Marco Enfield Musketoon with a 5/16 x 20 nipple. Neither one of them are what is considered standard sizes for muskets so measuring to make sure is a good thing. I have both metric and SAE thread gauges like the one pictured here

Theres a fella in western MO. that works on muskets, pistols and such you could email or call him at his shop. His name is Dell Warren and he owns and operates James County Mercentile and you can look him up in the suttlers site. Hes done work on alot of differant style and makes of weapons. So give him a try and he may be able to point you in the right direction.
