Here is the short version of the story: A few years ago, a convicted felon bought a percussion black powder revolver from Cabela's. Felon then used it to murder someone. Cabela's was sued for selling it to the felon. Even though by federal law they were not required to perform any kind of background check on people buying percussion black powder revolvers, evidently the case brought was that it was an illegal sale in Ohio. The gist of the available text is that somehow the felon revealed that he was a felon but the Cabela's employee sold to him anyway.

In response, Cabela's stopped shipping muzzleloading/percussion arms in the mail to your doorstep. In addition, you have to go to the store and fill out a "fake 4473". It is like the 4473, but has no government use or standing. It's just a CYA form for Cabela's.

Cabela's could have continued to ship mail order and just have an online form or checkbox you filled out just like their fake 4473.

But, they caved and decided to stop mail order delivery of black powder firearms.

There are many vendors that will ship to your doorstep no problem.

Sounds to me like they're standardizing their processes, stream lining if you will in preparation for the inevitable. From the Government!

Not to mention simplifying the process for those employees who don't know which end the bullet comes out of.

This is not new. I had to do a 4473 many years ago when I bought my 5'' 1858 Remington.

You should not have had to fill out a 4473 for a percussion revolver. I am surprised that NICS is not getting annoyed about this. Shiloh Sharps forces you to receive your percussion rifle through an FFL also, which adds another $50 or so to the price of the gun. But these guns are not supposed to go through NICS.

I agree and I was quite annoyed but it was a Pietta for $150 and my wife was buying it for me as a Christmas gift so I put up with it.

One of the wings was pretty much firearms and ammo, plus the good ol boys, would park in the back, and set up a tables. We were there My 18th and bought some percussion rifles. We went today and when walk up and into the B wing, where the majority of guns were, we thought we were in the wrong wing. I checked the next 2 wings and no firearms. Went back to get my wife and tell her we were in the correct wing but no firearms. I asked a vendor about this, and he said they Band the sales of firearms and ammunition.
I googled it and found a news article that the owners decided to do so because the Federal Government was coming down on private sales of firearms. They felt it would be best.
Here we go? Or are we already there?

Not unconstitutional ones. Which is pretty much all of them.
 
I've given up trying to find collectible firearms at garage sales and rummage sales. I usually get a reaction that consists of a scowl and a "no" answer when I ask if they've got any "old guns" for sale. Either they know what they've got and they're not parting with it on the cheap, or most often, they think I'm some sort of radical right-wing gun nut looking to outfit my private anti-government militia, I think. The closest I ever got was a remark that the dear old departed whole estate sale I was at had a gun collection, but no, nothing for sale.

They may think you are going to break in later and steal them. Or you are an atf agent or something. It may help to have pictures on your phone to show them what you are looking for, it juggled the memory of a lady who’s brother had a flint pistol he was thinking about selling. And she knew nothing about guns.

No info because the atf is busy squelching all info about it until after the election, stall, stall, stall. They messed up and they know it now. All the had to do was arrest the guy at his job. Oh wait, the name of the airport was “ Clinton airport “, so they can’t drag bill and Hillary’s name into it…so let’s go bust in at 5am and hope he shoots first….the atf has a history of this. Better close the thread , mods…..

The atf needs to focus on violent gang members and cartel drug dealers instead of people doing a rare occasional sale. If you are selling 50 guns a month without an FFL , yes, that’s not good, but no reason to raid someone at 5am.
 
At my local Rockbridge flea market, there is a new sign up banning all ammo at the flea market. That is kinda odd as in the mall buildings on the flea market grounds there is a gun store. The ammo ban probably only applies to table vendors I guess. I only saw one firearm for sale and it was an unmentionable pistol in .44 mag.

I went to Friendship last weekend, as i usually do. Of course, the gunmakers/range side was nice as usual, the primitive area as well. I also went to the regular flea market, which while just as busy as ever, has been going downhill for years. Mostly junk, *** manure, carnie food and As seen ON TV Chinese made garbage. I've been going probably 40 years. Theres always multiple folks selling guns. There were at least 2 booths in Sept. There wasn't a gun to be seen this year. Now, not that I care, I wasn't buying, but there had to be some reason those folks didn't go. And I'm sure it's related to Bidens ATF

I noticed that too. There were a couple booths selling antique firearms, but none selling black rifles or handguns like last year or years past.
 
Sometimes the gov't. spews stuff out there just to chill people's expectations, without any actual legislation to back it up. People will still find a way to sell one or two items without being actual "dealers".

Probably not Cabelas choice but their parent company, Bass Pro. Ever since Cabelas was absorbed by Bass Pro things have changed dramatically. Now you cannot work the action or test trigger pull on anything at Cabelas. No longer for me. I’ll buy from a gun store where I can inspect a new firearm fully.
Dang shame but everyone fears the lawyer.
 
I go to a flea local market that always has a gun seller or two set up with a dozen guns or so. Quite a few venders have one or two guns on their table as well as ammo. I have only bought one TC at this flea market in the last 20 years, it was an unfired gray hawk that I picked up for $90. I passed on a couple of Ultra High Tower flintlock pistols in very good shape for $200 for the pair, I just didn't need them.

There are always a few guys walking around trying to sell a single gun that they own, some pistols and even more long guns.

This is Alabama, we do things differently here.
