Kibler Colonial first one

Thought I'd offer up for view my first Kibler build. I'm not done with the build but close enough to test fire and zero the sights. Comments welcome good or bad. 58 cal rifled

Nice. The brass really pops against the wood & stain color.

By my scales 7.9lbs. Me on scale, 254.2 with gun. Me on scale with out gun, 246 and change.

carful calling it a build, people will call you out on it and say it is just a snap together kit gun that you can finish in a couple of hours! LOL, nice gun,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

That is a blend finish that I've used on Black Walnut for the past 40 some years. I started with a blend of 50/50 linseed oil and paint thinner to pull the oil in. Then I switch a 50/50 of gum turpentine and linseed oil to help seal the wood. Each mix is done in one pint per mix with five to six drops of a red stain in each mix. The final coats are of straight linseed oil. I would guess I still have a couple of months work on/off until I feel it is done.
I found a couple of missed machine marks in the wood that I'll need to to work out. I also have some work on the brass and the lock that needs done.

Don't worry about small marks. They get dinged up plenty with use.

And that is one of the reasons why I ordered the Colonial in 58. For me it's a tool to be used. It fits a time period when woodland elk, bear and big cats still roamed the midwest/eastern u.s.

down right purtyfull! I have a Kentucy build going and was wondering what to use as a finish. now I know! thanks.
and those that claim Jims kits are legos either have never put one together or didn't give the build the attention it deserves.
that is a pretty rifle!

I've seen some of the writings. I look at it this way, working with Black Walnut stock material is like beating your head against a brick wall, hurts like all get out but look at all the pretty stars you see while doing it. It's a build

i have lots of experience in finishing other types of wood. Mostly bad! have been known to have had to strip more than one before getting it right! :doh:
