Barrel pins are in and the lock/trigger/butt plate are in. This trigger pull is sweet!
I need to tweak the trigger guard a little for it to fit 100% but overall assembly is going smooth! I should have it completely put together by the weekend!

Trigger guard on, ramrod pipes on, and ram rod tip is pinned on. Ram rod is sanded! And fits well! Will the tried and true make the ramrod fit tighter? Should I sand it to be a little too loose ?

It didn't tighten mine up that I noticed. I gave it two coats of T&t then minwax paste over top once it dried

All this hubbub... We fully disclosed that it didn't have good grain flow. Further, I would do absolutely nothing to it other than finish it as normal! I highly doubt it will ever break unless it takes an awful hard fall etc.
I happen to agree with this statement. I have had some old guns made in the 1800s that needed restoring with bad grain flow that have lasted many decades without cracking or breaking. My favorite finish is to use Formby's Tung Oil, hand rubbed with a bare minimum of 3 coats and preferably 6 rubbed down with 0000 steel wool. It makes a great deep weather proof finish.

Man, you're blazing along ;) I don't get solid time to just assemble, so mine will take a lot longer overall....but I am getting to the steps that help it drop into becoming a functional rifle pretty quickly....even if not everything has had a final finish yet.

Got it sanded to 220 and wet the stock
I'll post pics as soon as I put the first coat of finnish on! It'll be a couple days at least. What is the difference in the finnish when you hand rub the oil in vs when you buff it with abrasive?
Does just rubbing it in by hand produce more of a glossy finish?

Well ended up with some free time! Poured a tall glass of rye and spent the last couple hours wetting and sanding up to 320 and put on the first coat! I filled the grain as best/evenly as I could, so far I'm happy!

I'm sure most of you know but in case there is another new owner that pops into this thread. Clean your bore before the first use!!!!! The machining looks great! But all those metal flakes are still In There

Agree; I found same excessive chips in my .54 Woodsrunner as delivered. Prob would have shot out ok, but...
