Fit a breech plug in a Colerain barrel, only took about 90 minutes including putting a mirror finish on the face.

Just made a new Range Rod for the .50 H&A target rifle.
Got a piece of straight grained hardwood dowel [nominal size 1/2 inch] sanded it down to a nice fit then made a two hand handle and glued them together, I’ll give it one rubbed coat of linseed oil as I want to use it tomorrow

The handle is part of a billiard cue that I bought to make a walking stick.I was going to use the spliced bit but it turned out to be painted. Wood is white and very dense.

Got out my cap and ball pistol just to check it. tryed a cleaning patch on ramrod got it stuck in the barrel. my stupidity of being in a hurry. Took the nipple off poured some powder in tapped it ,pour some more power in then replaced nipple. Real dry here so picked a clearing that didn't have leaves and dry grass but had rocks. Fired out into that spot. That ramrod must have hit a rock becouse it ricochet off in to the wild blue and not found yet. Enough smoke could not see where it went
Mum said there would be days like that! :D

Cheers, Pete

That looks more room than my Rapido french Motorhome. 2001, bit tatty on outside but nice inside , got it for £9k five years ago , been across France to Med an another to Bordeaux area It’s home for home 23 mpg now expensive to run at £10 a gallon , do have great trips in it

Love from London , miserable weather here Got to get a “permit to carry “ before I can take any guns to France. Ferrry around £190 return across channel. Plenty of hogs to shoot if I can get a permit

Ps photos french trip wife Joan and son David And and french Forarges intimidating 8 th century castle
Yeah it’s pretty roomy two king size beds a kitchen and shower. Nice rig you have there as well.

First shots today through Colt 1860 New Army "Second generation Cavalry Commerative" purchased here from @Relic shooter using 25 gr 3F Swiss loose loaded, felt wad and round ball rammed. I tried both .451 RB and .454 RB. The .451 didn't shave a full ring, but I think actually performed better grouping-wise.

The bottom target is first shots w/ .451 balls at about seven paces. Happy with that group, so went out to 25 yds. Top target is 25 yds w/ top group again the .451 balls and the middle group .454 balls.

I tried both CCI #11 caps and #10 Remington caps. The #10 caps did better wrt not jamming or falling off. However, had problems with both not igniting on first hammer strike. Subjectively, it "feels" like the hammer spring has less tension than my other 1860's, so maybe I'll try addressing that and see if it makes a difference.

I could also put on a set of Slixspring nipples to address the cap ignition issues .... BUT .... since this gun with shoulder stock is sort of in the "collectible" category, undecided whether I want to do that. Opinions welcomed.

As far as shooting a pistol with a shoulder stock: it's more than just "cool", and truth be told, it's rather pretty easy sighting in and shooting with it in this configuratiion. (Just don't forget where not to put your support hand and thumbs!! It's not really a rifle!! Hah!!)

My first impression of this Colt "Second generation" 1860 is that frankly, it's not quite up to the fit and finish of my "Third generation Signature Series" Colt 1860.

Rob, not that I’m expert, but I don’t remember having seen a brass wrap on the end of a trade gun stock before. Was this something common in a certain area or seen on a few guns?
Here's one on a N.W. trade gun .... Ugh ! I hope no one wants one on a N.W. gun I make !! :)

Yesterday I finally patterned my 16ga Kibler Fowler. I did a square load of 70gr 1 1/2f Swiss and that volume of #5 shot. Which according to my shot dipper is 1oz. Disregard my poor drawing. My turkey head ended up looking like a poor representation of a T-Rex

Well when you do bring down a T Rex with your Kibler please be sure to share pics with us all here before going to the media and authorities!! They will probably confiscate it since it was out of season!
