I know that a lot of us on this forum are in the same demographic with aging eyes, so I thought I would ask the group. I am scheduled to have a vitrectomy and a procedure to peel scar tissue off of the macula of my left eye. The scar tissue is from several retinal tears that were repaired successfully with a laser several years ago. This epiretinal membrane, or macular pucker, is not uncommon, but sometimes progresses to where it causes blurred, wavy vision in the affected eye, which is where I am at. Have any of you been through this or a similar procedure? If so, it would be helpful to me to hear about your experience and the results. Thanks in advance

In July I had a procedure done where past scarring of the right eye was... reworked...
to be regrown into a smoother and healthier surface.
It is much better. It is not however perfect.
Recently (since July) I've had both eyes go through lenses replacement surgery for cataracts.
The lens replacement cataract surgeries have been pretty much OK. The eyes are functioning better and the discomfort has been less than I anticipated.
About the procedure done in July...
It was extremely painful after I'd gone home. Insurance would not pay for pain relief meds to help with it. Investigate your particular circumstance before getting poked in the eye.

? Had cataracts lens replacement and glacoma stents inserted in May this year. I do not recall any pain or discomfort. None what so ever. Next day after surgery doctor appt, said go back to normal life driving, stores, reading and if the eyes bother you stop for a few hours. Mine were both eyes two weeks apart. Wonder why our experiences were so different. Just had my 5 month check up and no pain and eye drops morning and evening to help keep pressure down.

He is not asking about cataract surgery which is a painless procedure. His question relates to a vitrectomy and a procedure to peel scar tissue off of the macula of his left eye that he is having done.

I had a vitrectomy about 4 years ago to repair a macular hole in my right eye.
I had to stay face down for a few days as they injected gas? in my eye to replace the vitreous fluid. I saw a big black bubble for days until it was absorbed and finally disappeared.
The surgery was successful but I had retina damage. They said the retina hole doesn't close back up properly because the nerves don't always "line up". Therefore I'll always have distorted vision in that eye.
Good luck to you.
It was actually a cool experience. I was able to see the instruments inside my eye. The doctor said only a few people can see it.
Then just as he said, I'd have cataracts form in that eye within 6 months.
I had it removed and a new lens put in. But I'll always have retina issues.
