So the Scottish Pistol project is at about 90% finished. I still have a few things to do - drill & tap the cock for the top jaw screw; drill & polish the top jaw; finish the cock; harden the lock plate, cock and frizzen. We'll see how it goes, but here's the pistol today:
Well, it's been about 3-1/2 weeks since I last posted. I've been working on the Scottish pistol all the while. I had to make another tumbler as the first one was too small by about 4 -5 thousands and the bloody thing was flopping around badly. I hardened the various parts in a charcoal fire in a fixture I made several years ago when I made a wheel lock mechanism. The lock plate developed a nice outward bulge (even though I blocked it so that it wouldn't!!) that I worked for several days to correct. The last problem I encountered was I couldn't cock the lock when it was mounted in the stock. I finally found that the mainspring was hitting the back of the barrel & it's fixed now.
Now for the final photos, first the side view of the pistol:

got a nice nick in the medallion plate too!
