I simply use a foam hearing protection ear plug over the nipple. They are cheap and I keep two or three in my shooting bag just in case I lose one.
When hunting, I put a cap on and just set the hammer to half. But if there is rain or snow, I will put the ear plug over the cap and set the hammer fully down onto it. Dense enough to keep moisture out. If a shot opportunity happens, I can easily flick it off once the hammer is all the way back.

I often leave the rifle loaded between hunting days. I remove the cap and the ear plug goes over the nipple with the hammer down on it for that too. Helps to keep out moisture and the yellow ear plug makes a great visual indicator to remind me the rifle is already charged.
If you use foam plugs on the nipple under the hammer you stand a chance of a piece of the foam being cut and left in the nipple causing a misfire. I cut a piece of leather the size of a quarter, rubbed with oil, tied to the trigger guard between the hammer and nipple. Cock the hammer and it falls away with nothing left on/or in the nipple.

I do the leather on a thong thing also, except I cut the leather pad into a narrow strip about 3/8” wide and an inch or less long.

I use a fresh one every year, rather than using the same one for years and years to the point of it being a crumbling mess.
If that ever does happen, I'll be walking out of the woods with my head on a swivel, watching for a tree to fall over and possibly hit me too.
I find the chance of that happening to be right in there with being struck by lightning. 🤷‍♂️
