Now, its not fancy, nor even old timey looking, but....

I took the long/hook side from a worn out small rachet strap, cut the hook off, and just tied it on where I wanted it.

Worked like a charm.

Doesn't work though if your concerned about how it looks.

My Pedersoli GPR is too heavy to take hunting without a sling. I got a nice one from Ox Yoke. It came with a video link to install it correctly. The front end goes over the barrel but does not interfere with sighting. The rifle has a deep crescent butt and the leather on that end sort of fills it in.

I have a good quality lace-up sling, but haven't used it on my Great Plains. Here's a pic of a trial fit on the crescent butt. It sure looks like it should work out okay.

One thing I didn't think of is how the strap could interfere with the ramrod. There's ways to make this work I'm sure - maybe just have it further to the rear. On my rifle the strap shouldn't interfere with the sights.

My two Great Plains Rifles and my Great Plains Hunter are set up like this. Pretty sure these detachables are from Uncle Mike's.

That attachment to the pipe is interesting. I have been searching and searching the net for one that will fit, but not one is listed to do so. They are either too big or too small.

The pipe measures .550.

The only ones I have found are listed to fit:

.420- .470

.630-.675

.645-.660

Do you happen to know what brand that one is on your GPR in the pic?

I have 2 GPRs and I have the Uncle Mikes tube swivels for the Marlin .357 1994c. Just double check now and then that they are still tightly clamped around the tube. I removed one of the screws from the toeplate to mount the aft stud so that it could be removed if needed. I can now use any style slin I want. Don't have the guns with me now so I cant take pic, but the mounts are like the ones previously posted.

Thank you.

Guess I need to try to find a forward clamp/mount for a .357 1994c.

I googled Uncle Mikes site, but I'm not on my computer and dont know how to post link to part no. on my tablet. I'm pretty sure I got them from MidSouth or Midway or Natchez when ordering other stuff for my unmentioables.

I’ll try and get you more information.

Looks like it. Between the buckhorn and the screw on top, you will notice a small circle. Pretty sure the spring goes between that and the base.
I'm going to remove the spring and take it to my hardware guy. He has a huge selection of springs.

Thank you again. I have looked on both of those web sites but I didn't have a model number (application) to look for.

With the model number you provided I was finally able to locate one. That was the only way I could find one.

I thank you again.

I checked everything this morning and I am using the identical approach as Ravenousfishing.
Uncle Mike's part number 10512 (includes the swivels too).

I have a Great Plains Rifle flint .50, a Great Plains Rifle percussion .54, and a Great Plains Hunter percussion .54 - I have this sling arrangement on all three and have had no problems.

Due to the weight of my .54 GPR, as well as to help facilitate its use packing in and out, I'm wanting to install a sling on it. Slings really help when hunting in the mountains, especially when packing out critters. So, here are my questions for those that know the GPR.

One. I'm considering one of those stock/boot lace up, frontier type. However, I've never seen one in person, only in pics. My concern with those are, I often hunt from tree stands. I use slings for several different things doing so. Some of which is I sling my rifles over my back when I want to use my pee jug and sometimes to just stand and look behind me for a while. The sling must be durable enough to hold together under any type of pressure a person can put one through. Just like an unmentionable.

Second. On my New Englander, I use a leather sling with quick attachments. I have no problem with those whatsoever. Been using them all my life with all sorts of rifles. Never a problem. However, when looking at the GPR, I do not see how to remove one of the pipes. I don't even see how the barrel rib is held onto the barrel. With my New Englander, I purchased a different pipe that facilitates a sling swivel attach point, easily removed the factory one, then installed the new pipe.

If anyone can chime in here on the durability of those frontier type slings, that would be great.

If anyone knows how to remove the lower pipe and rib, please post up.

If anyone knows where to get a replacement pipe that will facilitate a swivel for a sling, please let me know.

Also, looking for a spring for the rear simi-buckhorn sight.

Thanks.
I had a sock-boot-lace up sling years ago. Short answer, PIA and POS. Check the quality and thickness of the leather if you go that way.

Going outside the box, I have punched a hole through the rib of a few GPHs for folks to allow use of a swivel from ToTW and they seem pleased, though I have not used the setup myself. Requires a bit fitting and a positive thread lock that still allows the thing to swivel.

Thank You for the information, SD. Much appreciated.

I settled on an Uncle Mikes QD split band swivel for one of the pipes that I was finally able to locate due a poster on here. Hasn't arrived yet.

Indeed, I feel much better about a heavier made sling for the GPR. That's all I've used for many years on all of my rifles.
