This morning I shot my Frontier percussion rifle. .50 cal. I get very consistent accuracy 50-130 yds with Triple 7 3fg powder. 50 grains, .490 ball, .010 patch.

Rewind to last July when I was getting ready for a competition shoot, and I have way more T7 2fg than 3fg so I thought what the heck, I'll burn some of that on day 1. I could not hit ANY paper targets 50-100 yds. Not even on paper most of the time. I could not believe how bad it was. Needless to say changed on day 2 to T7 3fg and tied for first place. Tagged a little 8" steel rabbit at 130 yds off hand.

This morning I tried the T7 2fg again. No issues, was hitting steel all over the place. :dunno: The only variable I can think of would be air temperature? Would that affect it??? 85F last time, and 35F today.

Anyhow, I was happy to see the results today because I have lots of T7 2fg, it's easy to get, and I try to save the real BP for my flinter.

Postscript; I lost my 95 year old mother yesterday, range time is good therapy.

Condolences. I lost my parents many years ago but I still think of them often.
Prayers up for the family in this tough time.

today I got back to work on the walnut fowler. got the lock inlet started, about half way in. The youngster I am building it for showed up with his girlfriend and we did some shooting. I still haven't let him see the fowler in making! don't want him to see the ugly duckling.
he gave me as part trade on the fowler a Springfield trapdoor 1884 in about 95% . that is what we shot.

What did I do? Started cleaning and sorting my inside bench...tools in one box...gun parts in another. Sometime ago I splurged and bought a .54 renegade flinter...and...the box...crate...laundry basket...of gun junk... the gun was 150$. the bunch of junk was 25$. In the junk were several pistol cleaning kits, loose cleaning pieces...jags, ball pullers and like that, a fishing box with half a tin of #11 and half a tin of 209's...and more cleaning brushes, solvents, three or four round ball molds with handles... .440, .530, .570. unopened boxes of speer balls in three calibers...36 .44 and 53. A leather hunting bag and two torn leather ball pouches...it was a matching set. Also some...unopened mini balls .57..and a swamp of loose balls, a lead pot, pour ladle and a sharp fish knife. Oh...and sandfinished the junk Gemmer stock..BLO and 1200 grit wet paper.
