I guess if you've got a cheap gun you dont mind ruining and have a bunch of time on your hands with nothing else constructive to do, and have the machines and parts, that's up to you. Nothing I would ever do. Ever.

A guy I know had a really nice plains rifle he built from a kit. He went and drilled and mounted cheap Weaver scope rings on it and put some sort of 4-12 power scope on it. Made me sick every time I saw it. I dont know if he even still has it.

Well it wasn't a period scope.

I'm sure matchlock owners said the same thing when the flintlock was coming out. And Flintlock owners said the same about those new fangled cap lock guns.
We know WW Greener disowned his Son over the choked cartridge shotgun, claiming until his death they were no improvement over the open choked muzzleloader.
