Curious, what would be the most direct fit lock replacement for the Pedersoli Frontier model flinter? The early Ketland looks to be the one from TOTW but is L&R better than Siler for example? I shoot my flinter a lot, and just thinking about lock longevity of the OEM one. Thanks

*ps....I shoot this flintlock once a week, couple dozen shots each time. 1000+ shots a year seems like a lot but maybe not compared to some others here?

I have two Pedersoli flint guns, both have been used quite a lot, over about 25 + years. Both have held up well, though the frizzen on the bess has been re-hardened a few times, and finally replaced a couple of years ago. Otherwise, they, both are still functional.

Other than your concern about the longevity of the OEM lock, are you having any issues with it?

While not the Frontier, I have a Pedersoli Scout in 32 caliber, and it possibly has a different lock (I’ll note mine has both the percussion and flint locks, but the flint is the only lock that seems to get any use), but based on the date code it was made in 2002 and has seen some use. I know I am on at least on the seventh 8 pound bottle (I tend to save and repurpose the empties) of Ballistic Products’ # 1-1/2 Superbuck being fired through it (plus other roundballs), so north of 8000 shots without any noted lock issues. Now I will say when the gun was new, the lock was gone over (deburring, polishing, spring adjustment, etc) and it has been well maintained, but that’s something that most any lock will require if you want dependability and longevity.

Now the above doesn’t mean a major overhaul won’t be required in the future, just telling you what I have experienced with a single sample.

Once I have it back Brad said he put a list of things in with it so I know exactly what was done, he explained it all to me yesterday but some was over my head. He did say he cut teeth into the jaws like the old style locks, and replaced some of the internals. Wasn't cheap that's for sure.
