I dont put corn out like that. I just put out that mixed songbird seed. I mainly want to draw songbirds along with the squirrels.

Coons I dont tolerate. I want them gone.
I usually don’t put out shelled corn either. Usually put out scratch for my chickens. Shelled corn is more apt to bring in coons and loathsome crows.

I’ve said before and I’ll say it again. Around here, if I see one coon, I most always see the whole fam damly. They are rough on my bait pile and they not only try, but a few have managed to get into my chicken house pen. Many nights resulted in less sleep due to coons trying to kill my chickens.

IMO, coons are democrats of the animal kingdom.

ENEMY!

I saw so many squirrels during deer season and not a one when I was out there for small game this year they know when it is I swear!
Yes they do. Usually during deer season, it’s what I call squirrel stupid season. They are everywhere trying to store up nuts for winter. They do not pay as much attention to their surroundings as they should.

That’s why I usually keep a blunt or judo in my quiver. Usually enjoy watching them but once the barking starts, the deer stay away.

I ran across this diagram a couple of weeks ago. Going off of this, it appears as if squirrels innards might be back a little farther than other animals. Not that big of deal with a RB but it can be for certain other things. I seem to be good at blowing them just about in half with my Crockett. 😡

That works, huh? Heard of it, but never tried it. But I really dont mind the squirrels as long as they dont destroy the feeders...
I only do that with the crows food. I'm trying to make friends with them. My squirrels are pretty much heathens, and will eat everything. I've got a group of 5 crows that come to their feeder after I call them (when Ive moved away from it of course).

That a goal of mine.
Set up your feeder on the ground. I used an old cookie sheet with 2x4 runners on the ends. I drilled holes in the bottom for drainage. I'll fill the bird feeders first, then the squirrels. On my way to feed the crows, I hit the call. I give them cracked corn and shelled peanuts doused with cayenne pepper. When I'm done feeling, I call again. A lot of the time they're there when I get back to the house. Maybe one of these days they'll bring me a gold doubloon or something cool 😉

Thanks for the advice. I will give that a shot.
Back in the ‘70s we had a neighbor down the road that had one become quite friendly and started picking up words, spoke more clearly than a parrot. 50 yrs later I finally want to become friends.
