Smoky, if you want a copy of the book you might want to do so shortly. Yesterday I went and picked up another small order. None to my liking, the printer has raised their prices $5.00 per copy. This is not sustainable considering I was barely breaking even from the beginning. I only have 8-9 copies remaining and that might very well be it. The only way I might place another order is if I raise my price from $27.00 to $32.00 shipped. Even at that I’m not making much, if anything, by the time I pay expenses.The price of shipping has increased as well.

With that said, I was pretty sure from the beginning that this was not going to be a moneymaking ordeal. However, my intent was to put something out there for friends and fellow members on here that they would enjoy reading, and hopefully learn a few helpful things as well.

Received my Book and was very impressed. I haven't Squirrel hunted in awhile but the book has inspired me to get off my keister and get out in the woods!
The only way this book could be improved is if a few good ole Kentucky Squirrel recipes were added!

Okay guys, I've posted this in the squirrel hunting thread but I thought I would post it here as well. I have a new book out titled "Squirrel Hunting-The Traditional Way". This is a self-written, self-published book. I wrote this book primarily for friends, family and muzzleloader enthusiasts, especially for members of this forum. There's 93 pages of information plus colored pictures. This is not a money-making ordeal. I'll be lucky if I can break even. The book sells for $22.00 plus $5.00 shipping. If it costs more to ship than that, I'll cover it.

Hey Ed,

In your excellent book you write about the sounds that squirrels make. Although it’s an aspect I have not paid enough attention to I have observed an unusual squirrel sound after missing at close range, with the .45 toward evening so the boom and flash were high and right on his tail. He stopped after the shot and let out a noise that sounded as if he were continuously exhausting all the air in his lungs, for a while.

I half expected him to collapse out of fright or at least til he recovered his wind. I have never concluded if it was an alarm sound or just an exclamation that it was his closet encounter yet with patched round ball.

Hopefully I haven’t written of this before, but I’m old and forgetful. Anyway, just wanted to know if you heard similar sounds after a near miss.

Once I nicked a squirrel with birdshot and it made many exasperated noises that wasn’t a pleasant scene.

I came down on it with the butt of my piece and ended it. Large fox squirrel, about the only kind we have down here anymore. Cooked up fine.

Good on you, Ed! Lots of people think they ought to “write a book,” and maybe a lot of them should, but I doubt if one in a thousand pushes through to completion. My hat’s off to you, brother!

I’ve seen hunting books, and specialty books about hunting turkeys, hogs, and deer, but I don’t think I’ve ever seen one dedicated to squirrels. Your book not only fills a void, but it looks to be very well done.

A neighbor of mine grows pecans for sale. He has a relatively small grove, maybe eight acres, but he works it hard. Squirrels cleaned him out this past fall. He didn’t even recover enough nuts to sell. In his free time, he was out there with a shotgun. He told me he killed 120 over the course of the season, and they still kept coming. I told him to let me know next year and I would help him out with my Jackie Brown fowling piece. Too many neighbors for shooting rifles at squirrels.

My grandfather fought in World War II and my dad was a young boy during the time he can’t stand Nazis or communist I am the same way

Please I meant no offense I was gonna say if I live closer to you, I would come and squirrel hunt. I got two sons well one doesn’t Hunt other guy me and him must’ve killed. I say 100 apiece last year and we have a small 15 acre farm lots of different nuts walnuts Beachnut some other nut I don’t know what the hell it is but they love it and the paw paw. I think a little paw paw smeared on my clothes. I’m telling you that’s the best cover ever you have a good day in Florida watch out for them gators.

Laughing out loud I do that too. I told my boys save your ammo a foot on the head or a butt stock is OK. They look at me like I’m crazy, but you know freaking millennials are kind of soft.

I more or less had to as I was so near my gun would have blown him asunder. It was a long shot and he took probably one or two pellets and they wounded him badly, but I couldn't let him go on like that and that was the most humane way.

I’m not sure as to the sound you were heard from that squirrel, as you described it. I think I might know but unless I hear it myself I couldn’t say for certain.

I'm brand new to going after squirrels with a ML, but have experience hunting them, and I still found a ton of great tips in the book. The ML section was invaluable to me, and I can't wait to put it all into practice this year.
