    paper cartridges

Been rolling my own several years. Like anything takes practice to get good at it. I roll up a 100 or so as needed. fill with powder tie open end shut. Nice when out shooting. Just grab 1 or 6 slip in chamber, wad and ball or projectile. Less fumbling with the flask and measure etc. These days...

    load questions

Not really. But the hawken design is pretty heavy and will absorb most of the recoil. Remember BP doesn't have the hard recoil smokeless does. Start at about 40 gr ffg. Take a bath towel and fold it up to cushion it. Use a sitting rest at a table and help hold the gun so it don't kick back My...

Irregular holes in target from Lyman GPR

you might try gluing the target with spray glue to heavy posterboard or cardboard first. Gives the paper more support. That's what I do.

    hawken sight's

Yep that's just the way things are. And it irks me that big companies, like T/C would call their rifle a T/C Hawken. But that's life.

    hawken sight's

I have a 35+ year old CVA mountain. Realizing all the replica traditional sidelocks are based on the "Hawken" designs. Mine has a german silver blade sight mounted on a dovetail for windage. The rear is a buckhorn on a dovetail for windage and a screw for elevation. Two T/C's I have, the front...

    Misfiring CVA Percussion Hawken

I don't know, guess this goes to all. Have had my CVA Mountain rifle 50 cal since 1978. I have never had a problem with misfires, except an occasional bad cap. When you get a used rifle as in anything else used, most times the previous owner had a reason for getting rid of it. So you always...

Does anyone else clean in the stock?

pretty much same here. If been out in rain and snow, pull clean dry, relube. Otherwise once a year or so

Does anyone else clean in the stock?

Like you, I use a all natural lube on the underside of my barrel and rub linseed oil in the stock where barrel sits. I only remove to clean every year or so. Same with the guts of my revolver. The innards are filled with lube so residue doesn't get in in the first place.

    Patched Ball accuracy @ 100yds

my reply is to the original topic not just any one individual I'm going to chime in here, for what it's worth with a slightly different aspect. 1. pick a powder and stay with it (BP, pyro, 777, etc) eliminate the dupe loads that have different burn rates. 2.do you have fast or slow twist rate...

    What to use for lube

As always to each his / her own. Also depends what part of country you live in (humidity). And whether you carry daily or not. Mine is almost daily. From warm house to sunny / rainy day. to cold of winter and back. I load paper cartridges and either a round ball with a dry or lubed wad under it...

    Remington & Triple 7

There's a lot of rumors out there on different powders some even from the factory. The reason for a reduced T7 load over BP. T7 is supposedly more energetic. So if you been getting real good groups with 30 gr bp. they recommend 10% less T7 to get roughly the same power, velocity and thus impact...

    Chamfer Cylinder

Haven't seen a real need to chamfer mine. But a friend wanted his done. so to be a as precise and accurate as possible. I chucked a wood / metal counter sink in the drill press. Loosely clamped the cylinder down. lowered the 'sink. centered, tightened clamp. Then turned the press arbor by hand...
