    1st single shot percussion pistol?

Wrestling with the first-timer's choice. Seeking advice from those who have owned Traditions, Lyman, and/or Pedersoli percussion pistols. Seeking judgement/opinions on authenticity, value and quality (including aesthetics) out-of-box. Thanks for your time.

    7-shot flintlock

Since I first saw this a few months back, I have 'wished' for a replica. The little I have found online indicated that the design lasted for some time, including a funky looking rifle dated just before the American Revolution. Expensive, heavy, complicated, and some posit dangerous (think...

Barrel Wedge on Colt Revolver Reproductions

Lots of great info. Thanks to all who offered up advice.

    Vendor experiences?

You're a good man. In my opinion, Made to order is entirely different than simple retail. I would recommend a middle road. Charge a non-refundable deposit at time of order to cover your expense/time. The balance (gross margin) can be charged at time of shipping. If the card declines at the...

    Vendor experiences?

Thanks. My assessment was similar (silly, cool). Not sure I would ever fire it, but it will look good in he display case with the wheel lock.

    Vendor experiences?

That condescension is a bit out of line. Even though we are dealing in obsolescent weapons, it is the 21st century. eCommerce sites all over the world display an accurate stock status, which allows the buyer to make an informed decision. It is also SOP to delay charging a credit card until an...

How about an opinion on the pistol?

    Vendor experiences?

Fair points all. If there were another source, I would have walked at the first sign of BS. My 'want' is in conflict with my 'don't mess with me'.

    Vendor experiences?

New twist. Email today, they received the wrong matchlock from the manufacturer, and that I could have the cheap alternate or wait another two months. Of course, they still have my money...

    Old Navy Arms 1858

Complete newbie here. I acquired an old used Navy Arms Remington repro. It seems solid, but the finish indicates a fair amount of use. I understand that there were a variety of manufacturers, and that there is no reference for serial numbers. If true, am I rolling the dice on replacement...

Thanks, Wes. I will hang in there for a bit longer.

    Vendor experiences?

Would tend to agree, Mooman. While much of their stock seems to be available elsewhere, they were the only one I found offering a matchlock pistol. I know it is not historically accurate, but wanted to span match, wheel, flint, and percussion in the collection.

Barrel Wedge on Colt Revolver Reproductions

So no trying to hold down the little tab (spring pressure) in the center of the wedge on removal? Do you lay the revolver on leather or something to 'back' when striking to avoid scratching?

Colt 1860 Army vs 1861 Navy?

Thanks Wes, precise and concise. Exactly what I was seeking.

    Wheel Lock Pistol

That looks like my critter. I presumed Indian - this is made in the Czech Republic? If I can figure out how to upload a picture, I will. Do you cast your own shot? If not, where do you purchase the .580 ball? How many grains of FFFg do you typically load? I am actually interested in a...

Colt 1860 Army vs 1861 Navy?

From those that own both, are these models the same frame size? Is the cylinder on the Army a broader diameter to accommodate the larger caliber, or the same size with slimmer chamber walls? I would presume difference in weight of barrel and cylinder due to caliber difference (less metal on...
