    Second rifle build completed

The stock is spalted curly maple, 1"x 36" 40cal Rice Barrel, L&R lock, sights and triggers, the butt plate and nose cap from Track. Followed TOW plans as close as I could, very happy with the color, I mixed the stain using aniline dye.

    Lancaster Squirrel Rifle (J.Hagy/Hagee)

Just beautiful, awesome work, thanks for posting.

    Wormy Maple

There are worm holes, then there are WORM HOLES, I've seen a couple of sweet southern guns, poor boy style with a few worm holes along the stock, no areas totally eaten up, just a few holes scattered along, and they are beautiful. Before you buy, maybe they would send you some pictures?

    Second Gun done

Sorry, I forgot some details. The barrel is a Green Mtn. Cut off, in 50 cal. Octagon to round. The stock is a plain piece of hard maple. The lock is stamped Blount Co. I had to do a bit of tuning but works pretty good now. Thanks for the comments.

    Second Gun done

I'm not really into pistols, I won the barrel and wood so I figured give it a try. Found out there is a ton of work in a pistol! I learned a lot, made the trigger and plate, entry pipe, side plate and pouring a pewter nose cap. Stain is aqua fortis and that is pretty cool stuff, finished...

    Fixing blocked ramrod hole?

Consider doing away with the front lock bolt. You can put a false bolt on the side plate (plug the hole and turn the bolt into a screw) I've seen it done plenty of times.

    First Scratch Built Rifle

The lock did not get the bleach treatment, just instant blue then rubbed down with the oily Scotch pad. Same with the triggers, no bleach. The cherry was stained using a mixture of leather dyes 2 parts Cordova, 1 part Red Mahogany , 4 parts alcohol. 1 coat did it. I wanted the reddish look over...

    First Scratch Built Rifle

Again, thanks for the votes of confidence! I am already thinking about the next project, possibly a octagon-round barrel fowler??? I will use the same metal treatment that Ken taught me: after normal draw file then emery cloth, seal the barrel up (cork in muzzle and tooth pick in vent hole)...

    First Scratch Built Rifle

Thanks for the good comments. I never kept track of how much time I spent on the rifle, it was a 6 month project, but usually an hour at a time, in the evenings and maybe a few hours on the weekends, the barrel is 42", I still need to make a ramrod for her.

    First Scratch Built Rifle

This is my first rifle from a plank of wood. I have built 2 kits, the first was a TC Hawken in 1982, then a Traditions Ky Rifle last Christmas, then I had to try this. Wow, I have learned a lot, I had much guidance from Gunsmith Ken Netting and he did the engraving for me. Thank-You Ken, I am...
