    Barrel leading?

It kicks about like a 12 gauge. No biggie. I know a lot of folks on this board say a PRB is fine. Most of the elk hunters here in the west I have talked to use a conical for elk so being a blackpowder newbie that is what I chose. A PRB would be a lot simpler it seems. Haveing read a lot of...

    Barrel leading?

Another newbie question: I have been shooting lead conicals in my .54 TC Renegade. So far I have fired about 30 rounds through it and have been gettin pretty decent accuracy. My pet load so far is 100 gr of Goex FFG behind a cast 450 gr Lyman Plains bullet lubed with TC Bore Butter. How...

    bore butter for hunting?

Another newbie question if you all don't mind. I will be elk hunting in Idaho with my .54 Renegade begining Sept 8. It could be a bit warm. I have been shooting it at the range using 100 grains of Goex FFG behind a 450 grain cast Lyman Plains bullet lubed with T/C Bore Butter. It has been...

    Delrin ramrod - dissapointed

You are right, I can handle the "wet noodle" effect by being sure to grip it close er to the barrel. Maybe sanding it will roughen it up and make it less slick?

    Delrin ramrod - dissapointed

I guess I shoulda asked you guys first! I bought a delrin ramrod for my TC .54 Renegade. I don't like it much. It is slick and about as stiff as a wet noodle. Hard to get a good grip on the darn thing. I bought it to use for hunting so I didn't impale myself out in the woods somewere. Oh...

    WD 40?

I've been using TC Bore butter. What have you all been using? What is good to use for long term storage?

    WD 40?

I see a lot of you use WD40 to oil your bores. I was under the impression you were not supposed to use petrolium products with black powder. The label on my can of WD 40 says "contains petrolium distilated" so I have avoided its use. Am I missing something here?

.54 cal shot placement options for Elk

Well the Lyman Plains bullest shot the best! Here are the two 50 yard groups I shot with them. Shot with factory open sights - from the bench. 80 grains black powder. 90 grains black powder I am sure I can tighten these groups up with some practice and by getting used to the stiff...

What is a good lube for cast conical bullets?

Thanks for all the input guys! What I would really like to do is use something cheap at the range for the testing. The other two bullets I will be testing are alreay lubed. I have two questions: 1. since I am only going to test a few of these Lyman bullets at the range to see if they shoot...

What is a good lube for cast conical bullets?

I will be testing some cast Lyman plains bullets in my .54 Renegade this weekend and I need some bullet lube, I will be using black powder. Should I use T/C Bore Butter? That seems to be the only thing readily avalable in my kneck of the woods. I have read were bore Butter and Crisco are about...
