    Trigger adjust

Assembled my gun and it seems the trigger has about an eight inch of play before it actually hits the sear. It's mounted on atrigger plate so I don't want to inlet it any deeper . Is it ok like that or should I solder a piece of brass to the top of the trigger so it reaches the sear? It doesn't...

    wooden warclubs

It was just something I read many years ago in school. An old book of woodlore. I'll check my documentation next time before throwing in my two cents. Billy

    swamped barrels

One of the gunsmiths at colonial williamsburg told me swamped barrels were hand forged that wayto reduce weight in the barrel in the middle where it wasn't needed. The breech takes most of the stress. Than the muzzle was thickened again so the front sight could be at the same plane as the rear...

    wooden warclubs

According to tradition, a native american boy would tie a knot low on a young sapling tree. So by the time he was old enough to go warring the tree would be the right shape to start making his war club. The knot would have grown together just right. I doubt you want to wait 5-6 yrs or so. Billy

    Lock/Rifle Idenification

That wouldn't be a mule ear, would it? I remember a discussion about them a while back with links to a website that had plans to make your own. I could be wrong. Billy

    x ray lead sheeting

Just wondering, would it be safe to use that material having been exposed to al that radiation? Don't want to seem like a worry-wort but I don't think the issue has been addressed. Billy

    spalted maple ?

    Sad but true....

I can't find BP anywhere in my state. So I smuggled it in from the Commonwealth of Virginia. They had all the BP I wanted plus rb's. They even had a couple of traditions kits. The sales guy knew where everything was and didn't even ask for ID. Less than 50 miles from Colonial Williamsburg...

    Sad but true....

It's up to us to keep the faith. I remember when Harleys were almost forgotten with the wave of rice-rockets coming in. Now every lawyer and doctor has one parked in front of a Sterbucks on Sunday afternoon. This sport is only for the faithful. BTW I still have that old 71 shovelhead that's been...

Just curious, is there enough meat on that barrel to maybe rifle it later?

Proper period weapon in Colonial Williamsburg

I thought the march on Lexington was to sieze the powder. Without powder all you have is a club, and you'd need a slingshot to hurl the bullets at them.

would fishing sinkers be good for bullets. every once in a while I run into them at yard sales.

    Home made barrels

I'm still working on my barn gun and already planning my next build(all this is a wonderful obsession). Just wondering how hard it would be to make my own barrels from scratch. The subject fascinates me. The making of my own boring as well as rifling machine as well. They're made of wood...

    3 Shots in 46 seconds

Al that speed is useless if your not hitting the target. Injuns, charging bears and wild hogs don't care how fast you miss them. Bill

    oops!

I did it, I got it back together. Thanx for all your help. I'm taking pictures this time. Hopefully it won't happen again(yeah right). Billy

    oops!

I've disassembled my lock for inletting and can't figure out where all the little parts go. It's a flintlock from sitting fox with no markings I can see. Anyone know where I could get a diagram or even a photo? I'll just beat myself with a wood mallet till I figure it out. I can...

    Making wooden cups

I remember reading about noggins in an old book about woodlore. You would take a tree burl and carve it out with a crooked knife. You'd leave a small tab handle to run a leather thong so you could tie it to your belt. Many were very ornate.

    Corn Boiler and mug questions

Maybe you could consider a noggin. It's a bowl shaped mug made from a burl. They were carved and then you ran a small piece of leather through a tab handle to tie it to your belt for carrying. Some were very ornate.
