    old locks

    I have a Russ Hamm lock on a rifle I built in 1965. I also have a small piece of steel which he sold to resole a worn frizzen. This steel was supposed to contain some radioactivity, so I never used it or tried to work with it.

    black powder subsitute

    If we're just talking about how many shots can be fired before swabbing the bore Triple 7 will work, but you still have to put about 5 grains of black in first to get it to fire and you must reduce the charge accordingly. If it wasn't for that extra step Triple 7 would be our answer.

    Cap/Nipple Woes

    I had the same problem, changed nipples and problem solved. Recently it happened again and I discovered a chunk of cap up in the cavity of the hammer.

    FFg or FFFg?

    I've always used 3f for both the prime and main charge in my .45 and .50 cal. flintlocks. I have a can of 2f that I may have to try in the .50 some day, but then I'd still have to carry 3f to prime with. :shake:
